CHAPTER TEN:
IF YOU NEED ME, I'LL BE THEREIT HAD ALL ESCALATED SO quickly. One minute she was getting her head checked for a concussion, the next she was in the middle of a battle with her fellow teammates. One side consisted of Steve, Sam Wilson, Bucky Barnes, Clint Barton, Wanda Maximoff, and Scott Lang. The other side consisted of Tony, Victoria, Natasha, King T'challa, Rhodey, Vision, and Peter Parker. She knew that there was bound to be a fallout, but she didn't expect this to be the way that they would have it out.
And when the war was over, Victoria's heart was shattered. She had watched as Steve and Bucky escaped in the quinjet, and she was silently thankful for that, although she still wished that they would have just listened. She had watched in horror as Rhodey had been hit with Vision's mind stone, plummeting to the ground and Tony not catching him in time. She had watched her friends be arrested and taken away, and when it had been just her and Natasha left standing in that field, Victoria had a total meltdown and Natasha was there to make sure she got back to the facility safely.
Since then, Victoria had been sitting by the viewing area where Rhodey was currently being fixed up. She hadn't talked to Tony yet. She didn't want him to see her like this. She was sure if he had seen her have a meltdown like Natasha had, it would've been so much worse. She wasn't embarrassed for crying, and she knew that Tony wouldn't have blamed her or even spoke as she cried. He knew how much Steve had meant to her, and maybe that was why she was just a little upset with him. A little, not a lot. But she wasn't in the right headspace to decide whether or not she was truly mad at him.
Natasha took a stand beside of Victoria, and after having a heated conversation with Tony, the brunette knew she wanted to talk. So, the two went on walk. Victoria's hands were stuffed in her pockets as she and Natasha walked outside. "You're leaving, aren't you?" Victoria questioned with a soft sigh, turning her attention towards Natasha.
Natasha gave her bestfriend a sideways smile. "You know I would stay if I could."
Victoria nodded her head. "I know." She let out a soft sigh. "It just sucks that you're going to leave me here to deal with Tony and Rhodey all by my lonesome."
Natasha chuckled at this before they took a seat on a bench outside. The two bestfriends just sat there in a comfortable silence, both of them knowing they weren't going to be seeing one another for a long long while. The two watched as a helicopter flew off, both knowing that it was Tony. Victoria knew that this was Natasha's time to escape. The two women stood up before embracing each other in a tight hug.
"We'll meet again soon, Vic. Until then, keep him out of trouble, yeah?" Natasha requested before the two pulled away. Victoria offered the redhead a small smile and the nod of her head.
"Yes ma'am."
"I love you Vic, you know that don't you?"
Victoria smiled at the woman before nodding her head. "I know. And I love you too, Nat. Now go. See you soon." She stood there, watching as Natasha made her quick escape before she let another tear roll down her cheek. With a soft sigh, the woman wiped away the tears and went back inside, joining Rhodey's bedside once more.
