CHAPTER ONE:
WORRY

"SO, I HAVE ANOTHER mission in the morning." Victoria stated, turning to place food on the two plates. Tony groaned in annoyance making the brunette chuckle.

"You seem to be having a lot of those lately, and I don't get any time with you." Tony muttered, watching his girlfriend as she gracefully moved around the kitchen. She poured them both a glass of wine, placing one in front of him and then one in front of herself. She gave him a small smile.

"I don't know why you're complaining." Victoria mused. "You have a presentation tomorrow morning anyways so we'll both be busy."

"Yeah, but I'll be too busy worrying about whether or not the grim reaper decides to pay you a visit today."

"I'm so glad you have so much confidence in me." Victoria scoffed.

"You know what I mean." The man rolled his eyes.

"I will be perfectly fine. I've done this many many times before and have come out alive and well."

"But not unscathed." He pointed out.

"Mostly unscathed." She argued.

"Mostly doesn't mean totally. Completely different words."

"Are you seriously not over that one time I got shot?" Victoria deadpanned. The man shrugged his shoulders. "Babe, it was literally a flesh wound. It's not like it entered a major artery."

"It was still a possibility."

"It's always going to be a possibility." Victoria told him, setting her fork down as she looked at him with furrowed eyebrows. Though it was mostly a conversation full of sarcasm, Victoria knew that behind the sarcasm the worry was there. Tony was always worried when she went on missions, scared that one day she wouldn't come back and he would be alone. He couldn't go through that, being alone. He's been alone for so long, and after Pepper he was even more terrified of it, but Victoria was his life saver. And he needed her, much more than he liked to admit.

"Tony, don't worry about me." Victoria told him, a serious look covered on her face. She walked around the counter, leaving her food and wine behind so that she could take a seat beside him. He pushed his food around with his fork causing the woman to place a hand over top of his. It wasn't often that Tony was like this, quiet with nothing to say. But Victoria was his weakness, she brought out a completely different person in him.

"Hey, look at me." Her voice was gentle as she spoke, making the man turn to look at her. She sent him a small smile, keeping her hand over top of his. "Do not worry about this, understand? I can perfectly take care of myself, and I can fly. So if need be, I can literally fly away from the situation. Nat will be there to back me up, and you trust her, so keep that in mind as well."

"I know." He huffed.

"If you know, then act like it and stop worrying." She gave him a quick kiss. "I will be fine. You are going to do your presentation tomorrow and not think about me whatsoever-"

"That's an impossible task."

"-and you're going to nail it like you always do. And if you interrupt me ever again I will ruin that handsome face of yours."

"You're hot when you're annoyed."

Victoria rolled her eyes, nonetheless an amused smile fell on her face. She chuckled shaking her head. He smiled, glad to be able to make her laugh and allowing the worry to wash away for the time being. She gave him another kiss smiling her award winning smile at the man. "You're lucky I love you, no one else would have managed to escape alive."

"I am lucky, aren't I?" He asked, smiling. She looked at the man in front of her with all of the love in the world before giving him another kiss and then getting up to go over to her food. He watched her movements, jutting out his lip in a pout. Victoria laughed in amusement.

"My food is gonna get cold." She defended herself, taking a bite of said food.

"Mhm, poorest excuse in the world."

"Food is more important." She told him.

"Oh now I'm offended."

"Good, you should be." She joked. She took a sip of her wine, looking at him through her dark eyelashes. When they both finished, she cleaned the dishes before heading up to the room she and Tony now shared. She got ready for bed before crawling under the covers, opening the file for her mission in the morning as she patiently waited for Tony to join her. She read over the notes, pulling her bottom lip between her teeth as she thought about how good or bad tomorrow could go. She hadn't noticed Tony had joined her until he snatched the file from her hands, stuffing it in the drawer on his side of the bed.

"Hey!" She protested with a frown. "I was reading that."

"No, you were worrying about it." Tony told her. "If I don't get to worry, neither do you. Because if you're worried, then I'll be worried, and you told me not to be worried so if you want that to happen you can't worry either."

"Wow, that was a lot of worry in one sentence." Victoria mused. He chuckled before placing a loving kiss on her lips, one that made her want more but controlling herself and moving under the covers more.

"Get some rest."

"You too." She responded. She rolled over so that her back was facing him. He clapped twice, the lights cutting off before he placed an arm around her waist, pulling her closer in hopes of their worries fading away during the night.
