I was awoken this morning by the rhythmic knock on our door. It was our father telling us that water came in the pipes and that we should keep our door open so he can bring water to flush the toilets. This was great news! My father was hastily catching up water in buckets and any empty containers. I am ever so grateful to the security men, who took the time to fill a barrel we had outside. People are really great some times.

My mother was frying plantain in the kitchen today. As soon as she saw me, she said we should wash the clothes we have piling up and I fully agreed. We took our bags full of dirty clothes to soak them in a sink outside. Afterwards, I made breakfast. We had fried eggs. The very few precious eggs that my father managed to pick up during our first run home. I would really miss those eggs when they are done.

Afterwards, I helped my mother wash our clothes. We washed them in a large tub that was set up outside. I don't have much experience handwashing clothes, but the little experience I had allowed me to be useful. Thankfully the water stayed for us to complete the entire process. We hung the clothes outside on the line. My mother and I were debating how we should go about it since ash would definitely blow on them, but what could we really do about that?

                    HANGING OUT CLOTHES

After washing, my mother and father decided to take another trip home. Today is the only day so far in which the volcano did not erupt. When they came back, we had a lot more packing out because they had brought a lot more stuff from home. The sun was also very hot today, therefore our clothing dried quickly. My mother filmed the surroundings of our yard. The sludge that was there previously was now dried solid and resembled concrete. All of my mother's flowers and plants were buried in ash. We were however cheered up, when we saw one of our hens with her five chicks, walking in the yard, still alive. My mother also saw a single rose on a plant that survived the ash fall. This shows that even in the hardest conditions, life is possible. We will keep the faith, have hope and be strong. Our home is in a huge mess, but we will get through this.
