"Ultron took you folks out of play to buy himself time," Fury says as I return with the rest of the team. "My contacts all say he's building something. The amount of vibranium he made off with, I don't think it's just one thing."

Lila sets a watercolor picture of a butterfly on the table between me and Nat. "I did it like you taught me, Kat," she says proudly.

"It's good, kiddo. Nice job," I tell her.

"What about Ultron himself?" Steve asks.

"Oh, he's easier to track. He's everywhere. The guy is multiplying faster than a Catholic rabbit," Fury says. "It still doesn't help us get an angle on any of his plans, though."

"He still going after launch codes?" Tony asks, not diverting his attention from his darts game with Clint.

"He is. But he's not making any headway," Fury answers.

"I cracked the Pentagon's firewall in high school on a dare," Tony brags. Showoff.

"Well, I contacted our friends at the Nexus about that," Fury says.

"Nexus?" Steve asks, confused.

"It's the world internet hub in Oslo," Bruce says. "Every byte of data in the world flows through there."

"It's the fastest access on Earth. I broke in once," I say, smirking at Tony. "Twenty bucks says my graffiti tag is still somewhere inside."

"Forty bucks says quiet, the adults are talking," Tony says, and I grit my teeth in annoyance.

"So what'd they say?" Clint asks, lining up a throw.

"He's fixated on the missiles," Fury says. "But the codes are constantly being changed."

"By whom?" A dart whizzes past Tony's face within an inch of his nose and I hold back a laugh.

"Parties unknown," Fury answers.

"Do we have an ally?" Nat asks.

"Ultron's got an enemy. That's not the same thing," Fury says.

"But what about the whole 'the enemy of my enemy is my friend' proverb?" I ask.

"Just because us and another group have a common enemy doesn't mean we can trust them," Fury says. "As to Ultron's enemy, I'd pay folding money to know who it is."

"I might need to visit Oslo," Tony says. "Find our unknown."

"Well, this is good times, boss, but I was kinda hoping when I saw you, you'd have more than that," Nat says.

"I do. I have you," Fury says. "Back in the day, I had eyes everywhere. Ears everywhere else. You kids had all the tech you could dream up. Here we are, back on Earth, with nothing but our wit and our will to save the world. Ultron says the Avengers are the only thing between him and his mission. And whether or not he admits it, his mission—"

"Is global genocide," I finish.

Nat kicks my shin under the table. "Never interrupt Nick Fury," she says quietly.

"Sorry," I say, feeling my stomach start to tie up in knots.

"But you're right, Kozlov. He wants all this, laid in a grave," Fury finishes. "So stand. Outwit the platinum bastard."

"Steve doesn't like that kind of talk," Nat teases.

"You know what, Romanoff?" Steve says, and Nat gives him a challenging smirk.
