"Let me see if I've got this straight," I say, my brain overwhelmed with information. "Twenty years ago, you and Miss Van Dyne's mom went on a mission where she shrunk herself so much that she got trapped in another world, and you want me to see if I can find her using a vision?"
"So you do get it," Mr. Pym says.
"I don't know if you do," I say. "First, I haven't had a vision in weeks. Last time I had one was when Ultron attacked. Second, I can't control what I see when I have one or even if I have one. I just see what I see when I see it. One time I tried to use my power to cheat on a history test at school because I didn't get much sleep the night before and it crapped out on me. Third, I'm not entirely sure what it is you're expecting me to see. I mean, if you don't know what this quantum realm even looks like and you can't tell me what I'm supposed to be looking for, then how exactly can I help you?"
"Scott might be able to tell us something," Miss Van Dyne says.
"Who?" I ask.
"Scott Lang. Ex-con and my, uh...we're kind of," she stammers.
I hold up a hand, stopping her. "Please stop. I'm not trying to be rude, but I don't think I wanna know." She sighs, and I swear I see her mouth the words thank you.
"Anyway, our friend went subatomic and was able to come back from the quantum realm, which we previously thought was impossible." Mr. Pym looks reserved as he tells me this. "That gave me a bit of hope for getting Janet back."
"What aren't you telling me?" I ask. "I mean, don't you have this Scott guy? Just send him back. What do you need me for?"
"He's full of shit. I wouldn't trust him as far as I can throw him," Mr. Pym says.
"You know what? So is Tony Stark and he pays my school tuition, puts a roof over my head, and helps keep me alive when he's not inadvertently trying to kill me," I say. "Why can't we call Scott?"
"Because he doesn't know anything," Miss Van Dyne says. "After it all went down, he couldn't remember a single thing about what it was like down there. All he said was that he could hear his daughter Cassie calling to him, but the rest of the experience was completely blank. We assumed that the quantum realm was just too strenuous on the human mind. We didn't push him anymore after that."
"Cool. So Scott went there and came back, but couldn't remember a thing because the quantum realm supposedly melts your brain, and now you want me to try to have a vision of the place?" I say.
Miss Van Dyne and Mr. Pym share a look. "Yep, pretty much," Mr. Pym says.
"I should've stayed in New York," I sigh. "Look, I thought I was an intern. That means I make copies and get coffee and stuff. I didn't know that this was a part of the job description."
"We know it's a lot to ask," Miss Van Dyne says calmly.
"Again, I don't mean to be rude here, but 'a lot to ask' is an understatement," I say. "A grown-ass man barely got out of the quantum realm, and you're asking a teenage girl to try to see down into it? Are you sure it's going to be safe? Like, haven't you run numbers or something?"
"We have. But there's still no telling what it could do to you," Mr. Pym says. "That's why we were hoping that with your powers, you'd have somewhat of, well, an advantage."
"I still don't know," I say, shaking my head.
"Just take some time to think about it, okay? My mom might still be alive and if she is, you might be the only way to find her," Miss Van Dyne says, grabbing my hand.
