author~chan: in this story, I'm putting certain events a bit later for a better timeline, so here's a quick summary of events leading up to this book:

February 10, 1997 ~ Pietro and Wanda Maximoff are born to Oleg and Irina Maximoff in Sokovia.
*Note: The twins' actual birthday is eight years earlier; I put it later to make it work more with my timeline

June 18, 1998 ~ Katerina Kozlov is born to Anastasia and Mikhail Kozlov in Sokovia. Anton Kozlov is born three years later on Dec. 16.

June 18, 2007 ~ The building where the Kozlovs and Maximoffs live is bombed. The only survivors are Pietro, Wanda, and Katerina. The three lose touch after the bombing.

August 2007 — June 2012 ~ Katerina is taken to a Red Room Academy in St. Petersburg, Russia. Undercover agent Natasha Romanoff takes Katerina under her wing. Katerina graduates at the top of her class and is christened "Red Assassin."

July 2012 — May 2014 ~ Red Assassin climbs to the top of everyone's "Most Wanted" lists for acts of terror. Natasha finds her and convinces her to give up being a terrorist. (after/during the events of Winter Soldier).

September 2014 ~ Katerina enrolls at Midtown Tech as a junior while she starts going straight and becomes an unofficial member of the Avengers.

April 2015 ~ our story begins!!!!

The Jeep rocks as something explodes by the back right tire. The tire is still intact, but the acrid smell of burning rubber still stings my nose, and I start coughing as Nat kicks aside another Hydra guard.

Bullets rain down over our heads and we get down. Pulling my assault rifle from its place on my back, I line up my shot and pull the trigger within ten seconds. The soldier in the gunner's mount of the truck next to us falls dead, a bullet hole in the center of his forehead.

I need to get closer. It'll be easier to get past killing the Hydra soldiers if I can't see their faces, and the ones here are too exposed. The familiar ringing sound of Thor swinging his hammer is growing louder. "Thor? Can you give me a lift?" I shout, looking up.

The god whizzes above my head, grabbing my arm and hoisting me in the air. The wind whips against my face as we speed through the snowy forest. "Brace yourself," he warns, dropping me on top of a watchtower.

I land on the shoulders of one of the guards, using my legs to pull his arms behind his back, and I swing the barrel of my handgun into the side of his head, hard. He falls to the ground, though I don't know if he's dead or just unconscious. Hydra might be pure evil, but I already have so much blood on my hands. Thor quickly arrives to aid me and we take out guard after guard.

"Heads up, Capsicle!" I shout, jumping off the tower. I land on the back of Steve's motorcycle, causing him to jump in surprise.

"Little more warning next time, kid," he says, elbowing me gently. "Now get ready to catch." He throws his shield like he's playing a game of Ultimate Frisbee, and it ricochets off of guards and trees before returning like a boomerang for me to catch.

An exploding car soaring over my head announces the pressing of another Avenger. Bruce—sorry, Hulk, "don't mention puny Banner" and all—comes hurtling through the air, causing the earth to shake as he lands, and I grab onto Steve's shoulders.
