Man's worst fear is darkness, but they do not fear the dark itself, but fear instead what hides inside its cover. Mary and Russell were no different, so when they found themselves separated from their parents on a camping trip they were scared beyond belief. As the sun began to set their fear and the ever present cold convinced them to make a fire. They arranged logs and sticks that they had collected into a teepee shape and they then faced a problem, They only had two matches. Russell took one and succeeded in getting it to light but when he tried to light the fire, the match went out. As the teens were plunged into darkness once more, a rustling noise began in the woods behind them. They tried to convince themselves that it was just the wind. They began trying to light the other match. Suddenly a twig snapped causing them to spin around. It was to dark to see what was there but they could feel something breathing down their necks. Russell took their last match and struck it one final time. They were rewarded with the dimmest of lights. Russell held the match out towards the forest. He and Mary froze in fear. Standing before them was a huge bear. He stood on his hind legs, almost as if he were human but the scariest part was the glowing red eyes staring down towards them. The match went out. No one knows what happened that night, all we know is that Mary and Russell were found the next morning, a single unlit match lying between their lifeless bodies.
