MAL WAS ALMOST freaking out, as she didn't want Oakes to be hurt anymore. But she had no idea how to handle a stab wound. All she remembered that she shouldn't take out the sharp object because it would damage essential organs.
"Oakes.. I'm so sorry, baby, you have to help me. I'm going to help you stand up so we can get you to a hospital."
However, he was barely focusing.
"I-It hurts..""I-I know, baby, I'm so sorry. Hold on, I'm going to get the others."
"No, d-don't leave me.."
She quickly got up, and headed towards the door.
"Guys ! Guys, come over here ! We need help !" She yelled as loudly as she could, tears threatening to stream down her face. She went back to Oakes just as quickly, and cupped his face between her palms.
"Stay awake, baby.."But it was too late. His eyelids felt heavy. He threw his head back to meet her eyes, and let out a final tear as his vision blurred.
"S-Sorry.."
That was the last thing he whispered before he lost consciousness.
☭
"Mal, where the fuck are you?! You said you'll be quick. That is NOT quick."
Nawal exclaimed through the phone, clearly angry at her daughter."I'm at the hospital, mum. Oakes was stabbed."
The girl replied calmly, on the verge of tears."What ? How, who did it ?"
"I-I don't know.. But he's unconscious, and-"
"Are you going to cry ? Girl, be strong."
"I will. I have to go now. Bye."
"Bye."
They hung up, and Mal returned to glancing at her friends, who were clearly upset.
"Guys, I know it's not the best time, but I have to tell you something important.." She began.
"What ?"
"I was doing the research earlier, and.. Well. See for yourselves."
"Finn. The photograph, please ?"
Finn let out the photograph, and handed it to his friend, not daring to look her in the eyes.
"Okay, so.. This is the director, and this is his wife. Apparently, her name was Elvira."
Everyone stared up at her in interest.
"Elvira was German, and she liked music. She was working on a piano masterpiece before she died in a crash.""Oh, how horrible !" Saoirse said sadly. Mal nodded at her, before she took a breath and continued.
"Yes. But here's a thing. The director wasn't happy that she died, because he didn't have anything to remember her with. Not even a photograph."
"So. He dressed her up in the best dress he found, forced her eyes open by gluing the eyelids together. Forced her mouth open in a smile, then stuck her shoulders to the chair she was sitting on so she would seem pretty much alive. Then took a photo of them together."
"But he forgot one thing. The dead don't like to be kept waiting."
The sentence sent a chill down their spines.
"W-What does that mean ?"
"She haunted him in order to finish her masterpiece. But he wasn't aware of that, and he didn't know anything about the song. So she decided to haunt you guys instead."
