I woke up suddenly. I was drenched in sweat and shaking. I could remember every detail so vividly it was horrifying.
“JARVIS turn on the lights please.” I said quickly, my voice trembling. The lights came on.
“What time is it?” I asked. I really had to get a clock in here.
“It is 1:42 A.M. Miss. Banner. Would you like me to turn on the shower?” his voice asked.
“Yes please. Can you turn on some music in there so it’s not too quiet?” I asked creeped out by the silence that echoed in my room.
“Yes Miss. Banner.” Suddenly I could hear the shower going and some calming music playing from my bathroom. I got up and went in. I looked in the mirror as I passed by. My face looked haunted.
Shrugging it off I got in the shower and began to relax. After I was done I stepped out and dried myself. I got dressed since I was sure I wouldn’t be able to fall asleep again and went down to the kitchen in search of some hot tea and something to eat.
After eating I went into the living room where I knew I would find at least one person. I was surprised to find no one there. I sighed. That was fine to.
I sat myself down on the floor crossing my legs. I have been meditating since I was met the elderly couple. I did ok keeping my temper up till then but when I discovered meditation it was a lot easier. Life was a lot easier to enjoy when I didn’t have to concentrate so hard on losing my temper.
I breathed deeply and let it out allowing all the thoughts in my mind to go out with it. My mind became pleasantly blank and I kept it that way.
I don’t know how long I had been sitting there when I felt someone else in the room. They weren’t doing anything so I just ignored them. They stood there for a minute or two before they walked up and sat down a ways from me.
It had to be Uncle Bruce. I knew Mr. Stark had no interest in meditation. I was pretty sure he didn’t even know what it was. I knew my uncle meditated. Considering who he became when he lost his temper I knew it had to be him. I didn’t care that he now knew I meditated. Lots of people meditated. It was healthy to meditate on a regular basis.
We sat like that for a long while just the two of us. I didn’t know what time it was and I didn’t care.
Suddenly a loud snore came from behind the mini bar and that did it. I burst into a fit of giggles and rolled onto my back on the floor still giggling. When I opened my eyes Uncle Bruce was looking at me smiling. I giggled some more and that sat up and smiled brightly at him.
“It is going to take me a while before I can ignore that.” I told him. I knew my face was pink from laughing.
“I hope you never do.” He said quietly. “Your laugh is precious.” He looked over at the mini bar and then back at me.
“When Monday comes around do you want to go to school with other kids or do you want to be home schooled?” He asked me studying my face carefully for my reaction.
My eyes widened at the thought of being homeschooled. I never even considered being homeschooled. It was never an option as a kid. I just dealt with the other kids bullying and tried my hardest not to lose my temper. Because I learned fast bad things happened every time I did.
“You would homeschool me.” I asked. I knew my voice was full of excitement and wonder but I didn’t care right then. I was trying not to start cartwheeling around the room and yelling for joy. He looked at me funny.
“Of course I would. If that is what you want. I contacted your old school and you are at the top of your class. The teachers said that if they were to give you the text books and assignments for the year they were all sure that you would finish it in two weeks tops. Being homeschooled you could finish faster and have more time to learn other stuff. If you wanted to that is.”
“YES!” I squealed excitedly. I jumped up and down. A snort and groan then another loud snore echoes through the room but I was too excited to pay any attention to it.
No more school bullying. No more getting tripped in the cafeteria. No more spitballs. No more cruel names and abusive behavior. I was free.
Smiling happily I helped my Uncle get up and I hugged him fiercely.
“Thank you!” I whispered to him. He chuckled and kissed the top of my head.
“You’re welcome.” He said softly. “Now go to bed. We have to go get your books and supplies tomorrow and you need to be rested up for it. It is already four thirty.”
“Ok.” I skipped across the room and up the stairs. When I got to my room I slipped in between the sheets not caring that I was in regular clothes.
This time when I went to sleep there was no nightmare. I slept soundly.
