My Family Rocks...!

I sat on the couch in the living room reading a book. I was in my room for a while but decided to go into the living room because Mr. Stark had a waterfall of sorts in the living room. The sounds were comforting and the water made the room feel nice and cool. It was my favorite part of Stark Tower. Don’t get me wrong the closet full of clothes that Mr. Stark provided me with was nice. But when you grow up in an orphanage you learn quickly what is important and what is not.
Turning the page of my book I shook my head sadly. I couldn’t say I blamed the crazy captain in my book for following the white whale who took his leg, he was very determined and I respected that but he was very narrow minded and I was sure he took it WAY too far.
Snickering at the whale, who once again out witted the captain and got away. Why would the whale want to eat the captain’s leg anyways? It was bound to be tough and too salty from his years at sea. Like beef jerky. Yuck! I hated beef jerky.
Lowering my book when I heard the click of heels, I smiled when Pepper stepped into the room and noticed me.
“Good morning Adalynn.” She said pleasantly, “Is Tony around?” She asked me.
I let out a laugh and stopped it quickly, with some difficulty, knowing she could hear the snoring coming from behind the mini bar.  I had looked back there once when Mr. Stark was gone. There was a fold up bed set up in the wall behind the mini bar. The thought of it never failed to make me laugh.
I pointed towards the bar. “He must have gotten home late.” I replied in a normal tone of voice, knowing he wouldn’t wake up. I could tell when he would and wouldn’t wake up by the volume of his snores.
Looking up the stairs to another set of feet coming this way I smiled at my Uncle Bruce coming down the stairs. He smiled and shook his head at me.
“It’s a Saturday. You should be sleeping in. enjoying a day off.” He said in a half joking and half worried tone.
I laughed at him. “I might miss something.” I replied.
“What are you missing Fair Maiden? I will help you to find it,” Came a voice from the balcony. My smile widened as I turned to see Thor coming inside.
“Nothing I just don’t want to sleep in.” I told him giggling.  He looked from me to Pepper to my Uncle Bruce a confused expression on his handsome face.
          “Then what is missing?”
My Uncle’s eyebrows rose in a funny expression. “Tony’s snoring.” He said after a moment of silence.
“I don’t snore,” Came a mumble from behind the bar. I couldn’t help it anymore. I fell back on the couch and full out laughed. I couldn’t help it. My family wasn’t the most normal family but I loved them so much that it didn’t matter in the least to me.
Taking a seat across from me Uncle Bruce looked at Thor in confusion.
“What are you doing here this early Thor?” he asked looking at Thor’s casual attire.
Thor grinned and my heart melted a little as it always did every time he smiled. “I came to see that Adalynn was adjusting well.” He replied in a loud, booming voice. “I have not visited in a couple of your earth weeks because of trouble on Asgard. It has been dealt with and I have returned.”
Thor grinned at me causing me to giggle. Uncle Bruce groaned and got up and headed towards the kitchen muttering something about driving not being the only problem.
Weird, but whatever. I shrugged it off. Uncle Bruce had a temper that none could match. At least not that they knew.
They hadn’t seen me mad yet. I hoped that they never would. When I was two I threw a temper tantrum that leveled the entire top story of the orphanage. At that age I was as dangerous as my Uncle and not even I knew how dangerous I was now.
I wanted to keep it that way. After a few similar and less destructive incidents I taught myself to ignore things that made me upset. My confrontation with the drunken headmistress was the first time in seven years that I had lost my temper and I felt terrible about it.
I was glad that nothing unexplainable had happened. I was terrible at thinking up excuses and I was the worst liar in the world. I tried to be as truthful as I could be for that reason.
“Hello!” came a cheerful voice from the stairs below heading this way.
“Is anybody home?” Steve Rogers made his way up the rest of the stairs and joined us. “Did I miss anything?” he winked at me as he took a seat on the other end of the couch on the other side of Thor who had sat down next to me.
I laid my head on Thor’s shoulder and grinned in the direction of the mini bar. “Just Mr. Stark snoring.” I said as I tried to hold back my giggles. A second latter a pillow came flying from that direction towards my head. I squealed and hid my face in Thor’s shoulder as he intercepted it and sent it flying back behind the mini bar.
Everyone laughed as a muffled “OW!” came from behind the bar. Uncle Bruce came back in the living room and wedged himself between me and Thor.
I tried not to laugh at it. I could understand where he was coming from but I was only sixteen. I was way too young to think about that stuff. In a couple years if I still liked him Mabie I would pursue but I want to make the right decisions now. Even if it was harder than I first thought. That did not mean however that I couldn’t have crushes and right now I had one on Thor.
I brushed it off. I would wait a couple years at least. Uncle Bruce would have till then to figure out how to deal with it.
The day was spent with everybody at Stark Tower just hanging out and getting to know each other even more. The perfect day in my book I thought as I got ready for bed that night. I had only been here for a week but my family rocked. Sitting on my couch I watched the sun set out the window that covered the far side of my room. A while after that I crawled into my bed and fell asleep.
That was the night that the nightmares started.
