chapter 26

          As soon as Taehyun started to wake up in the morning, he felt an emptiness in his arms and cold air greeted his frame instead of his boyfriend's warm body.

          He scanned the space beside himself but found nothing which made him open his eyes. "Kai?", he called the boy and raised up his body slightly to sweep his blurry eyes across the room while rubbing them intensely with his knuckles. He got nervous at first when he couldn't find the younger one in the bedroom, but he let out a sigh of relief when he heard the sound of water coming from the bathroom.

          The blonde male slipped his palms over his face and flopped back on the mattress with a loud thud. He had just woken up but he was already feeling heavily stressed, his mind was a complete mess. He hated having arguments with his boyfriend but now he had no other way, he was trying to protect his friend and he wasn't definitely going to reveal his secret, he had to find another way for making up for his boyfriend.

          The door of the bathroom cracked open and the brown-haired male was revealed behind it. Taehyun sat up in bed immediately and looked at him with expectant eyes but Kai didn't even cast a single glance at him, he just closed the door behind himself and walked to the nightstand to pick up his phone, but he was about to leave when Taehyun grasped his wrist and looked up at him with gloomy and sorrowful eyes even though the younger wasn't looking at him. "Baby, I'm sorry", he said in a sad tone, causing a million emotions to attack the younger's body and his heart tightened when he finally looked into his boyfriend's eyes and saw pain glistening in them, he hated when he was the reason of it, "Please, stop ignoring me. If it was about me you know I would never hide anything from you, but it is about Soobin and I can't say anything. I'm sorry"

          Huening Kai closed his eyes for a moment and heaved a deep sigh, feeling the ice in his heart melting from the younger's sorrowful words and wistful voice. Taehyun was a great friend and sometimes Kai even hated it, because he would always find the older worrying about his loved ones more than about himself and his own problems. Honestly, it was the main reason why Kai fell in love with him, but now he wanted to care about himself and their relationship more than about others.

          He slowly crouched down to the gloomy boy and gently placed his face between his palms which made the older's heart flutter and little stars started twinkling in his doe eyes as he thought that finally, Kai wasn't upset anymore, "Taehyun", the latter spoke in a gentle voice, his hopeful eyes staring deeply into his boyfriend's sad ones, "Let's leave this place and live our own life. We can't forever be here, we need to take care of our relationship because we have so much to do together. Let's do it now, let's run away, please. I will do anything you want, I'll make every of your wish come true, just please believe me this once, I promise you won't regret this"

          Taehyun was listening to his boyfriend's beautiful words and his face was enveloped in a huge sadness, his eyes tearful as his heart was breaking painfully in his chest, because he couldn't do it, he would never find peace until he could see that Yeonjun and Soobin were happy, that's when it would be time for him to live his own life because otherwise, he would never manage to be truly happy if he knew that his friends were still drowning in their grief and spending their youth in living in pain.

          "I'm sorry, I can't", he blurted out in a small voice and lowered his gaze in shame, and Kai wasn't even surprised by his response, that was what he was expecting him to say, but he hoped a miracle would happen and Taehyun would accept his offer, he needed to know how to live for himself.

          The younger boy let out a deep sigh in distress and heavily slumped against the edge of the bed, his elbows propped on his knees as his palms ran over his stressed and exhausted face, he was just asking for peace, was it really too much?
