June 14th Davenport Lab (Leo's POV)-
"No!" Maddie complained in outrage. I smirked as I replaced her bishop with my rook.
"What's the matter?" I asked innocently. "Oh? Am I winning?"
"It's my move." She said through gritted teeth. She looked at the board with a frown. She was trapped and she knew it. After a few minutes, she sighed and flicked over her king.
"I just lost at chess to a pipsqueak who didn't even know what a pawn was at the beginning of the game." She complained as Adam, Bree, Chase, and Big D walked in, back from their mission.
"Who you calling a pipsqueak you're barely an inch taller than me." I fought. "Hey, guys. How'd the mission go?"
"Great. We fixed the Pentagon's communication satellite and returned it to orbit." Bree answered.
"I even rigged it so we get every TV channel in the world! Who wants to watch Guatemalan drag racing?!" Chase asked excited.
"Ooh, sounds fun!" Maddie grinned. I gave her a questioning look. "What? It's probably gonna be crazy and weird." She laughed.
"Did my suggestions come in handy on the mission?" I asked excitedly.
"What suggestions?" Chase asked and I frowned.
"I did a ton of strategic research and gave it to Big D." I explained turning to my step-dad.
"Oh, right. I'm sorry, Leo. I didn't have time to use it." He said, that hurt.
"Yes, you did. You spilled your coffee and used Leo's research to mop it up." Adam smiled.
"You used my suggestions as a sponge?" I fumed.
"More like a paper towel. Maddie's wasn't enough. But it was very absorbent. Why don't you guys go clear out the rest of your gear." Big D sent the trio out of the room.
"Told you his ego is too big to take any help." Maddie scoffed cleaning up her chess board.
"We need to talk. I'm done being the waterboy. I wanna be a part of the team." I told him.
"Leo, I told you, you can't be part of the team. You're not bionic. And besides, statistics show that most accidents happen within a three-mile radius of you." I heard Maddie snort, but she still came up to defend us.
"You hired me to help this team and without Leo Adam, Bree, and Chase would be dead. Granted he has caused much more chaos..." She trailed off.
"How are you helping?" I asked
"You just need to give us a chance." I explained. Big D shook his head.
"No way." He told us, his voice firm.
"But I've grown! I've matured! I wear a medium now." It took until I was fourteen but I got here.
"Fine. I think I know of a way you two can help." Big D finally gave in. Maddie and I grinned as he reached under the counter.
"Finally! Thank you." I said gratefully. He dumped two behemoth paper piles in our arms. "What are these?"
"You two can type up the mission summary reports." He told us. I looked at him.
"You want me to be your secretary?" I asked but Big D shook his head.
"No, no. Of course not. Secretaries get paid, you will be doing this for free. Maddie's my secretary." He smiled, leaving the lab. Maddie tried to kill me with a look.
"Nice job, dingus." She said, stalking off with her paper.
