It must have gone half a minute, the sound of the wind blowing, the trees swaying, violent punches and groans of pain. Amelia zoned out, she could hear it all but she was completely in her own world. Until, Peter ran fearfully to his car, his face all bloodied up.

Suits him right.

Marcus crouched down so he was face to face with her, seeing if she was alright. He didn't say a word, but he didn't have to.

He felt mad at Peter, but he felt just as mad at himself. Mad because he didn't hear anything outside earlier. If he did, perhaps he could have climbed out his window just in time to prevent her from getting hurt, not when it already was too late.

As he observed her he found it strange that she didn't look enraged or sad or stunned or held any bad emotion on her face. She sat there entirely calm, one could even say she looked peaceful.

Her attention landed on his bloody lips, her eyebrows furrowed and a shaky gasp escaping her mouth as her hoarse voice let out "Your lip"

"You were beaten and you're concerned about my lip?" He laughed with a shake of his head. He couldn't understand how one in her situation could be concerned about someone with a little scratch. But, that was one thing he liked about her, how much empathy she had.

One hair strand managed to fall onto his forehead when he shook his head, and she lifted her hand to it, laying it back in place while her eyes were resting on his, causing him to freeze for a second.

"I barely noticed it, him kicking me repeatedly," She confessed gently as her eyes wandered up into the sky with a soft smile "I found comfort in the stars"

His eyes followed hers and he couldn't help but smile a bit too as he was reminded of what the stars meant for her. Then he remembered something else.

"Wait here a sec" He let out abruptly as he got up to his feet leaving a confused Amelia. She watched as he climbed up the wall of the side of his house and into his bedroom, climbing back out of it less than a minute later with what looked like rolled-up paper.

"I was supposed to give you this on your birthday in one month, but I figured this is an as good time as any" He explained with a nervous smile after he sat down beside her, extending her the paper. She took a hold of it, giving him a —you didn't need to give me anything look —, before she opened it carefully.

As she looked down at the opened paper and saw what it was her face couldn't help but lighten up. It was a painting of her in his hoodie, surrounded by nothing but the night sky and stars. He had become so much better at painting since the last time she saw his art, this was so realistic.

"Do you like it?" He questioned in anticipation, examining her face closely.

She perked up from the painting happily with a nod as she put her hands over his shoulders, embracing him. As if it was an instinct he instantly wrapped his hands around her waist with a relieved smile "It's the best gift I've ever gotten, I love it"

As she started to back away and end the hug, their faces stopped up about an inch away from each other, their eyes almost locked onto each other. She could sense his breath tickling her lips, and the tension making butterflies appear in her stomach. They were like that for a maximum of five seconds, but it felt like hours.

She sat back onto the grass, creating some distance to prevent something from happening. Them pretending like it didn't happen would have been hilarious if it weren't for the sexual tension managing to find its way back every time.

"Do you still think we'll be next to each other?" Marcus spoke up, interrupting the stillness as he referred to the stars above them.

She didn't except the question and felt herself start to play nervously with her hands, her eyes landing on the ground as she answered differently than last time. "I don't know"

"Oh, ok, cool" He retorted back weakly feeling a bit hurt by the answer as he played with a strand of grass in his hand to stop the overthinking.

She could sense it, that he had expected her to say something else.

"Marcus?" She muttered out hesitantly earning a silent "yeah?" back.

"This thing between us still won't be right, ok?" She reminded him gently, a sad look on her face as she got up to her feet, distancing herself from him.

"Why though? You broke up with that tool Peter, the only person we would need to tell is Max" He disagreed, not understanding what she was so afraid of. He didn't care if anyone knew, he didn't care what they thought because nobody could know the whole story except those it was about.

"Exactly, I'm straight out of a year-long relationship, you haven't even ended yours with Padma yet. We can't just throw ourselves into something we don't even know what is" She started babbling more so than explaining like she was trying to do. Everyone would find it suspicious if the two of them get together right after she broke up with Peter. If they even get together, she had no idea what he wanted.

That was the scary part, what if the thrill of it all for him was to keep it a secret from everyone and the second everyone knows he won't find her interesting anymore. What if the thrill was to get her when she still was with Peter, and now that they've broken up the game is over. She had been best friends with him for a long time, she knew he wasn't like that although in some ways he was just as messed up as her. The thought just couldn't leave her alone.

He got up from the ground, standing himself right in front of her as he glanced down at her with a serious look on his face. "Are you happy like this?"

She opened her mouth before closing it again, taking a second to think. "I'll manage, I always do"

He shook his head in frustration, running his fingers through his hair. "That wasn't my question. Are you happy like this?"

She crossed her arms as her eyes wandered over the neighborhood but as they accidentally landed on him again she couldn't help but let out a sigh of defeat. "No, no I'm not"

"That's because you always try to make others feel good before yourself, but for ones..." He explained gently as he stepped closer, their bodies touching. He took a hold of her cold hand, instantly warming it up as he put his own around her fingers. He lifted her hand to her chest, where her heart was placed. "You got to listen to what's in here"

"It isn't that easy, Marcus" She whispered out, throwing her head slightly back in frustration.

He put their intertwined hands away from her chest and to their side as he backed her into the concrete wall that only half an hour before she felt a completely different emotion standing by.

Taking her off guard, he suddenly pressed his body onto hers so she could feel every part of his front on her front. It was creating friction and without any control of her mind, it led her to think of what was under.

He leaned his forehead onto hers and she could feel some parts of her body pulsating as he whispered. "Do you want me?"

She removed her forehead from his as she scanned his face, everything from the small freckles on his nose that was nearly impossible to see if one weren't up close, to his eyes, perfectly shaped jawline, and his plumped lips. She put her hand up to his cheek and before she could even manage to think the words left her mouth. "Yes"

He backed away from her with a grin of satisfaction
as he let out smoothly. "Then, it's that simple"

Amelia was still standing into the wall completely speechless when he saluted her goodbye and climbed back his window leaving her there feeling as if her stomach might explode with thousands of butterflies flying out of it.
