"Well, if it ain't Mr. and Mrs. Jack Kelly." Said Crutchie
"What've youse been doing all week?" Race asked with a smirk
"None of your concern." Jack said
"We just came to get what's left of our stuff," said Lindsay, "We found an apartment. We have enough money to actually rent it too."
"You're moving out?" Crutchie asked
"Well, remember, Jack's been illustrating papers too. We have enough money to move, but we're both gonna sell papes for a while. We'll visit almost every day, anyway." She said
"I don't think that would be too great an idea." Said Specs, "Oscar got out of jail today."
"Oh." She said, "Well. Well, I have to go grocery shopping. I just remembered. We have no food at home."
"Want me to go with you?" Jack asked
"I'll be ok. But thanks." She kissed him, "I'll be back soon." She left
She went to the nearest store and got essentials. Apples, bread, tomatoes, and some more things. She walked out and saw... them. Walking around. Scoping out the place. Looking for her.
She turned the corner to an ally. She tried her best to get away from them. She could feel them near her, getting closer and closer. And closer. And catch up.
Morris grabbed her shoulder and pulled her down. There was no one else around. Screaming was useless.
"Don't you think she should be back by now?" Crutchie asked
"I'll see if I can find her." Jack said
He walked out and around the area. He searched in the store and the street. He didn't see her. Then he saw them running. Jack turned the corner and found his wife wearing the last layer of her dress, black and blue in the face, cut up, and unconscious.
He screamed to himself and scooped her up. He ran her upstairs in the lodging house. "Get Pulitzer!" He demanded
"What happened?" Race asked
"Get Joe! Now!" He laid her down on one of the beds, "Never mind, I'll do it."
"Jack, what happened?" Crutchie asked
"Oscar and Morris jumped her. I'll be right back." He explained
Jack bursted through the door of Pulitzer's office. "Joe!"
     "What?" He asked
"Lindsay! The Delancey brothers jumped her." He tried to catch his breath, "You gotta come with me."
The two went to the lodging house as fast as they could. Pulitzer took one look at her and stared. "Maybe she just fell, or something." He suggested
"Fell? Really? This does not happen on accident! I saw em run. I know it was them." Jack said
"Race, Specs, go get the police and a doctor." Said Joe, "Tell them what happened." The two left, "Jack, will you come with me to get Katherine?"
"Just since you're my boss." He said
They went to the site that Katherine was giving interviews at. It was pretty far, but decently close. "Katherine," Pulitzer said, "you need to come with us, your cousin was-"
"Jack!" They heard a distant yell. It was Elmer, "She ain't breathing!"
     "What?"
     "Come on!"
They ran and left Joe and Katherine behind. He was right. A doctor was there, but he was packing up. "I'm sorry, Mr. Kelly." He said, "She's gone."
No one could believe what they were hearing. "No..." Jack shuddered
And now, not only were her twitches gone, but she was forever still.
