Life had been a mess, for Janelle. It had only been a day, and the mess that Asher made at the Homecoming dance had everyone at Beverly High's attention. Janelle, however, had spent the morning at James'  home. The home of the Davis' was empty once again, now that Chris had needed to leave on an urgent meeting or something. Janelle was mad because her father had said he would stay for the game, but work always came first to Davis' family. Janelle took a fair share of that.

"That boy's a mess," Dillion said as the three kids sat at the dining table, having breakfast. Janelle was laughing, as she took a sip from her mug of hot coffee.

"Tell me about it," Spencer said, in a low voice. All you heard was the sound of Asher's voice replaying at the table, as Janelle just shook her head.

"How many times are y'all gonna watch that damn video?" Grace James said as she entered the room with two glasses in her hands filled with liquids. She carefully placed down the glasses in front of her two sons and took the phone from Spencer's grip. "Enough."

"Come on! Mom, it's Epic." Dillion said as the James women sent him a glare, as Janelle scoffs.

"It's far from epic, my little dude. Far from it." Janelle repeated as she looked down at her cup of coffee, and lifted it to her mouth to drink from it. Her eyes met with Spencer's. His eyes were filled with sorrow, as he began to dig into his food.

"What's wrong baby?" Grace asked her eldest son, as he looked filled with guilt. All Janelle could do was pity him. Spencer looked at his mother.

"It's my fault," Spencer confessed, as if everyone around him knew, but never pointed fingers. Janelle's nose scrunched at his statement. She parted the cup from her lips to say something, but Grace had already begun talking.

"Your fault?" The woman asked her son, and she also had the same reaction as Janelle did, just a second before the Davis girl, allowing her to speak up before her.

"Look, If I never left South Crenshaw, never upped and moved to Beverly Hills, none of this mess would've happened," Spencer said, as Janelle reached across from the table, and placed her hand on his, trying to comfort him. She sent him a small, sympathetic smile, and he returned a small one, appreciating the gesture.

"How is that exactly?" Grace asked, confused by her son's words.

"If I would've stayed, Coop wouldn't have been caught up with Shawn and a bunch of ganbangers.  Jordan and coach wouldn't be struggling to connect all the time, and Asher wouldn't be benched for homecoming."

"And he'd still have a girlfriend," Dillion added as he received a glare from Janelle and Grace.

"Look, Spence, you can't take the blame for other people's choices. Everyone makes bad decisions, and we reflect on them and accept them as a part of us. They don't belong to anybody else. And going to Beverly,  that was the best choice for you, for your future, your family. We can only ever control our own decisions." Janelle said as she brushed her thumb across the back of his hand, and she smiled at him. He just nodded his head and went back to eating.

Janelle was sitting in her car, in front of the baker house. She had just gotten off a call from her boyfriend, and she had been called over for a ride back to Crenshaw.

Spencer had asked Janelle if she could come over to pick him and Coop after they talked about Tyrone with Mrs.Baker. Janelle froze when she heard his name. Janelle hadn't stopped thinking about the man who had hands in her mother's murder, and she was angered by it. Not that fact that she knew it was him, but by the fact she had no way of proving it. All she had was the words of her father, and they still rang through her ears.
