This chapter contains drug abuse and alcohol usage problems. Also, bring up sad moments. Will bring tears to the eyes. The time Janelle had to get ready was limited. Hanging out with Leila at the mall was fun, other than it being cut short because Leila had forgotten something important.
Janelle had felt awkward after she shared a little too much of her past, so she felt a weight lifted off her shoulders when Leila cut the hang out short. Janelle was a mystery to almost everyone she knew, even her best friends. She hated talking about her past and hated to talk about herself in general.
Spencer knew Janelle for a very long time, and the thing that hurt him was that he couldn't tell who she was. He felt he didn’t know her. That he doesn't even know who she is anymore. That didn’t sit right with him. The idea of him not knowing one of his best friends hurt him.
Janelle got ready. Since Janelle and Leila had gone shopping for dresses, she had helped Janelle pick one out. Janelle had never been comfortable in dresses, she hated them, but she had wanted to look appropriate for the booster party because she wanted to make a good face-to-face first impression of her. She got a royal blue, off the shoulder, slitted dress. She put some flats on, a necklace with an arrow on it. She also had her nose ring, and her ears were decked out with piercings. She also had her black leather jacket on top.
Janelle drove to the party and had gotten a text from Spencer on her way there. He had asked her at what time she would arrive, and she replied telling him that she was just a few minutes away.
When Janelle arrived at the party, she started feeling the anxiety eat at her as she walked inside. Janelle was overwhelmed with the castle-like ballroom. The room was filled with men in their suits and women in their dresses, congratulating themselves about a football team they have nothing to do with. She saw Spencer being dragged away by Leila, as they headed off to somewhere. Jordan saw the girl walk in, and walked over to her. When he saw her fully, he was amazed at the sight.
“Hey Nells. Wow, I never would have thought Janelle Davis would wear it. You look nice.” Jordan hugged the girl as he chuckled at his own words. She hugged back and chuckled along with him, and waved him off.
“Whatever Jordan, You don’t look that bad yourself, but don’t get your hopes up, Baker, you're not that pretty. Not as much as me at least.” Janelle laughed as she nudged his shoulder, as he smiled and laughed at her statement.
“Ok, let's go meet some of the boosters, some of them are dying to meet you.” Jordan grabbed the hand of the Afro-Latin girl as they walked over to a group of elders as they sip out of their nice wine glasses as they chat and laugh. They stopped when they saw the duo of Quarterbacks walk up to them."You must be Janelle Davis-Garcia, nice to meet you," one of the men said holding out his hand. Janelle took it, shaking it.
"Yes, I am, and is a pleasure to meet you as well." Janelle smiled as Jordan stood there and whispered in her ear.
"I'm going to talk to my mom, I'll leave you to talk. See ya later," Jordan whispered in Janelle's ear as she nodded and he took off to find his mother.
"It has come to my attention that your father is the LineBacker of the San Francisco 49ners, how has he been. Haven't seen him in a long while," one of the other men said to Janelle. This is exactly what she didn't want to hear. She knew there was going to be people to ask about her father, she was just annoyed it happened sooner than later. She collected her anger and pushed it aside to answer politely.
"He's been good, but his plays have been great this new season, nothing I didn't expect," Janelle said, trying to keep calm.
"Oh ok, well when you get a chance to speak to him, let him know Jack Daniel's wants to speak to him," the man said to the girl.
