Janelle had been on the field every day since the Division Championship game. Her feelings haven’t been the best since the game, since Shawn died that day. Many things had roamed her mind, and football just seemed the way for her to solve such problems.
She and Jackson had been going great. Though Janelle played a facade, with the fake smiles and fake chirpy mood, he knew the girl wasn’t doing her best. Spencer noticed, but he felt the need to give her space, as well did Jackson. They wouldn’t question her, but Jordan, on the other hand, seemed to do just the opposite.
Jordan, along with everyone in close relation to the girl, noticed such behaviors, but the difference was, he always questioned her. If she is okay, or if she needs anything. The reassurance he gave her made her feel at home, but his pestering annoyed her.
He would go out of his way to ask her such things, and she was annoyed he did. She wished he would give her the same pity everyone else seemed to have, and leave her alone. She knew all she needed was a little space. Everyone but Jordan seemed to respect that, even Coach Baker.
The players on the football team were all on the field, all except for one. Spencer hadn’t yet shown up, and Janelle seemed to be a bit on edge because of it. So she would occasionally glance back at the gate, waiting for Spencer’s figure to come. It went on just for a while before she caught a glimpse of the boy jogging from the distance, causing her to sigh in relief, only enough to be drowned out by the voice of the Baker man speaking to his team. They had all been crowded around the man as he spoke to them about the news he had just received.
“ ‘The LA Tribune’ has announced their regular season awards and I’m humbled as I tell you that I have been named Division Coach of the Year.” The man proudly declares as he smiled as his team appealed to him, cheering and words of encouragement heard from the heard of teens.
“Thank you. All right.” He dismissed the cheers, as he began to continue with his small speech,” For real, I could not have won without every one of you players giving your all. And that includes division player of the year, Mr. Spencer James.”The players cheered their teammates with proud smiles plastered on their faces. He also had a smile on his face, as Janelle patted his back, with a smile on her face. She was happy for him, and she wanted him to be happy too. She knew he also was taking Shawn’s death seriously too. He had spent more time in Crenshaw, and she guessed that he had been at Crenshaw, due to his absence.
“All right, I’m proud of all of y’all. We got scrimmage on Monday, so be better, you heard.” He waited for a response before he repeated his small questions, and dismissed his players to the locker rooms. Spencer stood back to talk to the coach, as Janelle walked into the building on her own.
She blew out air, in a sort of sigh, as she walked off the field, unlatching the velcro on her worn-out gloves. She walked with confidence, as she heaved for air from her previous hard work out on the Beverly High Eagles Football Field. Her attention was then appointed to a calling-out figure behind her.
“How may I help you, Jordan.” She said as she continued walking, yet slowing her modest pace as neared the hall of the athletic locker rooms.
Jordan caught up to her and grabbed her shoulder from behind to stop her from going any further into the hallway. The Davis girl turned around once she felt her body stop from moving forward and the weight that had just amplified on her right shoulder, well that just gave her motivation to turn even more.
As she faced the Baker boy, he began speaking. “So, how about we take a break from the field for a bit. Go out, see the city, live a life other than the game of football, seeming as if you haven’t had time to give yourself a break.” Jordan personally said, as his cheeky smile tugged at the ends of his lips.
Janelle just rolled her eyes with a small smile, as she turned her head to face away from the boy. She returned to her original position, as she faced Jordan again. She hesitated to answer, contemplating ces she had. She didn’t know what to make out of the whirlpool of a mind she had recently, so the words that came out of the boy’s mouth seemed to process slower in her head.
“Um- I have a thing with Jacks. He wanted to take me out--for what?-- I don’t know, but he's only this spontaneous when something is on his mind. I want to be there for him.” Janelle’s voice was strong and steady, as she told Jordan he plans for the rest of the evening. He just nodded with a smile, as they slowly began to walk toward the locker rooms.
“Ok, so we'll do it some other time. I haven’t hung out with you singing Division Championships. You’ve seemed to be so preoccupied with playing all on your lonesome, I’ve barely seen you around. What's the deal?” Jordan questioned the girl as if he wanted to get something more in-depth as a response.
Janelle just stared back at him, still having a hard time processing his words. Asking herself the question asked of her. “Nothing, Ok. I just need to get better at the game. Even if the games weren’t my fault, even if they had stolen our plays. I should have caught on earlier on, and bettering my view of the field could change that.” Janelle said, as her shoulders dropped in relief, as she came upon the door to her locker room, just to be brought up again, as Jordan stood tall in front of said door.
“Look, you could talk to me about whatever is going on with you, Nells, because I know something deeper is going on in that beautiful head of yours,” Jordan stated, pointing to her head, as that statement came up in his words.
Janelle let his words process faster than she would have liked, and tried to shake them off. She nodded him off, as he walked away, into the other side of the hall, where the boys’ locker room was, as his figure disappeared into the doorway. She shook her head, trying to put aside the thoughts the conversation she had with Jordan had stirred up. Though, it seemed they only sank deeper as she pondered for the thoughts to leave.

“Hey, my love something came up with my dad, so raincheck? I hate leaving voicemails, but I know you had practice. I’m sorry, again, but I’ll make it up to you. Promise.” The voice from the device came to an end, as Janelle turned off the phone, sighing. She looked out the window of her lonesome room. The drapes hid her figure from the outside world. Her rooms saw out into the yard. Which sought out the whole city of LA. She sighed as she messed with the curtains, as the music played in the background.
Then, all so suddenly, the gate doorbell rang, causing Janelle to freeze in her steps. She walked downstairs, as she checked the gate feed, as the guards obediently let the people through. The car looked unfamiliar, which rang alarms in her head.
Though, Janelle walked up to the front door, curiosity streaming through her mind. Then the sound of tires screeching as if they step on the brake all so suddenly. Then the doorbell rang.
She stood before the door, not thinking much about the poor decision-making, as she opened the door blindly. Though with the face she saw on the other side, she froze up completely, like never before--actually, just like the time she was informed about her mother.

I know it's been a while since I last updated, and I’m sorry about the short chapter, but it's starting to get into the main plot so I need a little separation chapter. But, aside from that, hope you have a good day/night <3
