Today, there were people bustling all around the motel. The Bates had finally gotten the type of business they wanted.
Violet was still working the front desk and had dealt with all types of customers; cranky, talkative, overly nice, you name it.
“Alright ma'am, I'll send someone right now,” Violet said, blowing out a frustrated breath. One of the lady's kids broke a lamp and she didn't want her toddler crawling around on the glass.
Broken lamp in room 6
She quickly shot a text to her dad, so he'd clean it up and replace it, but just as she thought she was done, the bell jingled, signaling someone entered. She grabbed a pen and started filling out the date and time columns on the sign-up sheet. Without looking up, she said, “Welcome to Bates Motel, how can I help-- oh. Hey Justin.”
He nodded toward her, walking around the front office, observing the little knickknacks. “Do you need a room at all?” Violet asked, furrowing her eyebrows.
“No.”
Wow, this guy is just full of “no's” twenty-four seven, huh?
She put down the pen and watched him snoop around. “Pretty busy today,” he muttered.
“Yeah,” she grinned. “My parents are really happy about it.”
“Cool,” he said, leaning against the wall across from her. Stuffing his hands in his pockets, he stood there, smirking. “You look bored.”
She sighed. “I am. Someone breaks something every five seconds.”
He pushed himself off the wall and walked towards her, before leaning his arms on the desk. “Let's ditch then.”
“I can't. I really have to--“
“Alright, well I'll let you . . . do what you gotta do, and you call me when you're not busy,” he rasped, writing his number on the customer list, before leaving.
Violet was actually confused. She'd just met the guy not too long ago, and he wanted her to call him? She definitely would if she had the guts, but she doubted she would.

Violet sat on her front porch, watching the sun set. She smelled the leftover coals burning from the grill her dad recently used. She felt at ease.
Grabbing her lemonade glass, she pushed her chair back and went inside, instantly being greeted by her mom. “Should we go out for ice cream? Remember, we used to do that back at the old house. We'll just have to drive around and find a new ice cream shop,” she spoke excitedly, rinsing off some dishes. “Anyway, I asked your brother. He said no, but I thought you might want to.”
“Never ask Max for an opinion. But yeah, let's go.”

“I don't understand why I had to come with. This is so embarrassing,” Max whined, standing next to Violet in a line for ice cream.
“What's embarrassing is the fact that you're wearing shorts with socks higher than your ankles. Boys' fashion has gone downhill,” Violet sassed back.
“Hey, they're Nike. I'm wearing Nike tennis shoes, and I don't think Jordan socks would go--“
“Shut up,” Violet muttered, smashing her hand in his face.
