"I don't want us to end on a bad note," she said, leaning against the door so he wouldn't just drive away because she knew he'd do it.
"I don't give a shit what you want."
She pursed her lips, not bothered by his words. Violet knew he was just pissed right now and it'd blow over soon. "This is what you do, Justin! When you're mad, you say things you don't mean. That's when I get mad. So please, can we fix things?"
Justin rolled his eyes and pulled out a cigarette before lighting it. "Fix what? You were nothing to me before, what's changed now?" He chuckled dryly.
"What about-"
"What about nothing, Violet. You're just some girl who I happen to find hot enough to fuck," he shrugged, taking a puff of his cigarette.
Violet made her way to his side of the car. If she was gonna talk some sense into him, she'd have to dig deep. "You don't mean that," she whispered, but was she telling him, or convincing herself that? "Get out of the car so I can talk to you properly." She also had to be demanding, Justin was a stubborn little shit, so getting through to him wouldn't be a walk in the park.
After a shake of his head and a run through his hair, he eventually stepped out and stuffed his hands in his pockets. He looked like he didn't care, it's like everytime he gets mad, he shuts down. Violet tried to look up into his eyes, but it wasn't worth it. She didn't see the sparkle she'd usually see when he looked at her, his look was unpleasant and made her uncomfortable . . . so she looked away.
"Are we just gonna stand here?" He muttered, rolling back and forth on his heels and toes.
Violet took a deep breath to hold back the tears she wanted to let out. Not in self-pity, but in sympathy for Justin. He was so closed off, but she understood him as best as she could and as much as he would let her. "I care about you," Violet said, placing her hand on his forearm. Justin eyed it and scoffed.
"So did my dad. Don't see him around anymore."
"Hey," she whispered. "I'm not your dad, nor will I ever be. I'm here for you."
"Fuck off, Violet. I don't need your I feel bad for you comments. I've had enough of those over the years and guess who's still here? No one. That's because everybody is worthless and fucking stupid," he spat, ripping his hand away from hers.
"Do you not understand that I am trying to help you?" She yelled. It was unbelievable how he didn't comprehend anything she's ever said to him. "You need someone in your life that will help you up when you fall and I'm so down for being that person, and I also need you to be that person for me. But all you're doing is pushing me further down to where I can't reach you and you can't reach me. It's a constant struggle between us and I'm waiting for you to show some sign-any sign that you care, but you won't . . ." She confessed. "You just won't."
"I'm selfish, Violet. Don't try and change that."
"Can you just admit that you're finally having feelings for someone that aren't hatred or just lust? You're scared to dive in when you haven't even tested the waters!"
Justin tried to hug her, one of his many ways to quiet her down, but she stepped back. She didn't want him to touch her. She was becoming irritated and she hated the feelings she had for him. "Violet, come here," he demanded.
"No, I don't want you to come near me. I just want to talk this out."
"I'm willing to forget that this whole thing never happened, but you have to come here."
Violet rolled her eyes. "See! You won't even try to work it out. Forgetting is the easy part, but what about forgiving?"
"Don't give me that sappy bullshit."
