Violet actually had fun with Justin. Instead of having the intentions of a serial killer and taking her to the woods, Justin took her to the park. Violet noticed, when she was going down the slide, Justin actually smiled. Not that she had never seen him smile, she had. But usually it's an asshole smile or a smirk. So for Violet, to see him genuinely smile was refreshing. It probably reminded her that he still had a heart under the layers of ice.

They hadn't spent the whole day together, but Justin swung by her house for the usual late-night hangout. It was, as the saying goes, short but sweet. He didn't say any crude remarks, which was a plus.

“I had fun,” Violet grinned.

“You said that,” Justin chuckled, he cleared his throat and adjusted his stance against his truck.

“I know,” Violet smiled. “Thank you. I hope you can take me again.”

“If that's what you want,” he shrugged.

Violet laughed a little. “It's getting cold, so I'm gonna go inside,” she said, rubbing her arms. “Bye, Justin.” She rolled onto her tippy-toes and pecked his cheek. She looked over his face for any signs of repulsion, just in case, but there weren't any.

“Bye, kitten,” Justin replied. He watched her walk up the steps and she turned around and waved. But the wave was short-lived because her foot missed a stair and she fell, landing on her knee. Justin sighed, rolling his eyes. He placed his keys on his truck's hood and jogged over to her. “I'm fine,” Violet muttered, as Justin helped her up. He looked down at her knee. “You're bleeding.”

“I'll take care of it when I go inside . . . If I ever make it passed these stairs,” she snickered.

Justin chuckled, “Careful now. See you later, babe.” And off he went to start his truck and pull away.

“Damn, that was embarrassing,” Violet muttered to herself.

The first day of school for anyone is nerve wrecking. Especially if you're new to a school and you don't know anybody. One big thing about being new that scared Violet was finding someone to sit with at lunch. What if I sit alone? Gosh, that'd be so embarrassing.

She read over her schedule a few times. She had Foods and Nutrition first. That wasn't too bad. But she had English next, and that was her worst subject. She could speak the language as well as the next American, but essays just weren't her thing.

“Vi, it's time to go! Get down here now!” Her mother shouted from the stairs. Violet groaned, but trudged down the stairs anyway. “You seem excited.”

“I'm a little nervous.”

“You'll be fine. There's lots of new kids on the first day.”

But there weren't. White Pine Bay is a small town and not very many people have even heard of it. By lunch, Violet settled with the fact everyone had their own little clique and weren't taking newcomers anytime soon. So she sat at a round table that was partially filled with girls. They didn't acknowledge her though.

“Hey, do you know where room fifteen is?” She quietly asked a boy passing by her in the hall. He pointed to the direction behind him and she nodded, walking off. He seemed rude anyway. She finally found her Spanish class and walked in. No one looked at her, they just sat in their creaky desks and continued to talk to their friends. The bell rang and Violet waited for the teacher to introduce herself.

-

“How was school?” Tara asked Max and Violet as they drove out of the school parking lot.

“Eh,” Max answered.

Violet nodded. “It wasn't anything great. I didn't make any friends. Or at least acquaintances! No one talked to me besides the teachers.”

“Did you try to talk to anyone?” Her mother asked in disbelief.

Yes!” Violet exclaimed. “I told some girl she had a nice shirt and she looked at me funny.” And then I gave up. I'd rather be at home watching Netflix anyway.

“Well, maybe you'll make some friends in the next few days, yeah?” Tara knew Violet had trouble making friends. She wasn't very outgoing. She was quiet and shy, but once she was with people she knew well, she'd be that funny, witty girl she was around her old friends. What Tara didn't know was Violet already met somebody.

And that somebody is as bad as chocolate is for dogs. It may taste good to them now, but they could die later . . . Okay, maybe that wasn't the best analogy . . . She thought. Her thoughts were interrupted by a text.

How shitty was school? Do I need to come over and make u feel better ;)  -J

Violet smiled, but quickly glanced at her mom. “Who's making you all smiley?” Tara smirked.

“Just MacKenzie,” Violet replied. “She asked me how my day went.”

“Oh, that's nice.”

“Mhm,” Violet hummed.

It sucked.  -V

On my way babygirl  -J
