Chapter 45: I Have All The Family I Need Here

Plagg told us that we all need to sit in the waiting room so they can figure out what happened to her.

"What the hell is taking so long?" I stand up and start walking to the room but Nino steps in front of me. "They told us to wait dude. They won't be able to help her if they're distracted by you." "You're right." I sigh.

"I can't keep waiting though." "We know you're scared. We all are but she's going to be okay." Luka says and I nod. "Has anyone called her parents?" "I didn't know if you'd want us to." Alya says. "It's not what I want. Mari would want them here." I pull out my phone and step outside before I dial their number.

After a few rings they pick up. "Adrien? Why are you calling us?" "Um- Marinette's in the hospital." "And you're telling us because?" "I know you guys are fighting but she'd want you to be here."

"She walked out on us. We told her what the consequences would be and now she has to live with them." I feel my blood start to boil. "She walked out on you? You walked out on her! You guys should've been there for her! All she wanted was her parents! One day in the future you're going to want back into her life and it might be too late!"

"Did you call us just to yell?" "I already told you why I called! Your daughter is in the hospital probably fighting for her life!" "She's not out daughter!" "Whether you like it or not she will always be your daughter! You guys don't deserve her! Screw you!" I shout and hang up.

"Adrien?" Plagg says as he walks out. "H-how is she?" He shakes his head and the tears start falling down my face. "We need to get her that lung transplant as soon as possible. If we don't get it within a week then-"

"No! Sh-she can't." "She wants to see you Adrien." I nod "Just know that she's having a bit of trouble breathing and there's not much we can do right now." He says as I follow him to her room.

"Agreste" She says softly. "M-Mari." I say and walk over to her. "We'll give you two a few minutes before we let your friends in." Tikki says and they both walk out.

Marinette lifts up her hand and wipes my tears.  "I- I never gave you an answer." She says and takes a deep breath. "Save it for when you're out of the hospital." "Agreste-"

"No- d-don't say it yet Mari. When you get out of here we're going to grow old together with our kids okay?" "And our hamster." She adds with a slight giggle as a tear slides down her face.

"And the hamster." I repeat and she tries to put on a smile. "We're going to be really happy together Mari." "I'm already happy Agreste. Please let me give you my answer." "The ring! I- I left the ring when you- damn it!" "I don't need a ring Agreste."

"Yes you do. I had the moment all planned out. I wanted to slip it on your finger and I wanted to kiss you. Then we were going to watch the sunrise and enjoy the picnic I made us." "Adrien all I need is you." She says as she cups my face.

"You need a ring." "I have one remember?" She slides off the promise ring I got her and hands it to me. "This isn't an engagement ring though." "Then make it one. Propose again." She takes another deep breath. "Mari- I-" "Please? I want you to hear my answer."

I nod and get down on one knee. "Wait! I have the ring!" Chloe says as she rushes into the room with the rest of the group following. "How did-" "I picked it up before we left." "Thanks Chlo." "Hurry up and do it again!"

I turn back to Marinette and hold out the opened box. "Marinette Dupain-Cheng, will you marry me?" She gives me the strongest smile she can and nods. "Yes." I smile and slip the ring on her finger.

"Adrien?" "Hmm?" "Kiss me." I don't want to hurt her. "You won't hurt me." She says. "Since when can you read my mind?" She giggles softly. "Just shut up and kiss me." I smile and lean down to kiss her. She wraps her arms around my neck to deepen the kiss.

I quickly pull away when I remember Plagg said she's having trouble breathing. "Oh my gosh! Honey how are you feeling?" My mom asks as she and my father rush into the room. "I feel fine." She says leaving her lips slightly parted.

"Mari-" "Since you're all here we need to tell you guys about what's about to come." Tikki says as she enters the room. Plagg walks in right after. "Marinette it's only going to get worse from here. You'll go through a few stages before it happens." "Before what happens?" My father asks.

Marinette sits up and starts coughing. Plagg rushes to her side to put a tray under her mouth before the blood comes out. "I'm dying." Marinette says as she lays back in the bed. "B-but they said 6 months. You still have 1 left."

"Marinette needs to get new lungs within a week if not then she'll cough up blood more frequently, it'll get harder to breath than it is now, she'll be in pain every couple of breaths, it'll get harder for her to talk, and then she'll throw up a lot of  blood."

"So the stages already started?" Alya asks and Plagg and Tikki nod. "It's okay guys. I've prepared myself for this already." "Mari-" "Are my parents here?" She asks and turns to me. "Um- they're-" "They're not coming are they?" She asks as tears fill her eyes. "I'm sorry Mari." "It's okay. I have all the family I need here." She says and wipes her tears.
