Chapter 49: This Kiss Feels Like A Goodbye

As the hours pass by the pain increases. It's getting harder and harder for me to breathe even after Tikki hooked me up to an oxygen machine. I can barely speak now, just a slight whisper causes me pain.

It's going to happen any second now. Everyone is in my room with me. Well everyone except the two people I wanted there the most.

Actually scratch that. Screw them! I don't want them here. In my last moments I want to be surrounded by people who love and care about me. Not people who abandoned me in my time of need.

This whole time I thought I needed them, but the truth is I didn't. I only need one person. The person who's never left my side, the person who's cheered me up, the person who took care of me when I had no one else left to. The person who's going to get hurt the most...

I place my journal down as my hand starts to cramp up. I feel a tight pain form in my chest. I try my best to hide it, but of course Adrien notices. "Mari?" He quickly grabs my hand. I take a deep shaky breath before answering.

"I'm trying my hardest to fight Agreste-" I struggle to say as the air gets thicker. I'm now struggling to breath. Struggling to stay alive.

A tear slides down Adrien's face as he cups my cheek. "It's okay Mari. You fought hard. You can go now. You don't have to be in pain anymore." "I love you Adrien Agreste." "I love you too Marinette Dupain-Cheng."

"Agreste, promise you won't forget about me? You'll move on and have a full life, but please don't forget about me." "Mari I could never forget about you." "Promise?" I ask as a tear slides down my cheek. "I promise." He says. I hold out my pinky and he smiles slightly as he wraps his pinky around mine. We bring our thumbs up to our lips before pressing our thumbs together.

"I thought you said it was cheesy." "It is." He presses a kiss on my lips except this one feels different. It doesn't feel the same anymore. This kiss feels like a goodbye.

"We got the lungs!" Plagg says as he runs into the room. "We don't have much time, so hurry! We need to get her to the O.R!" Tikki says as she unlocks the wheels on the bed.

"I love you Mari." "I love you more Agreste." His hand slides out of mine as they roll me out of the room.

~Adrien~
I've been in this waiting room a few times before, but this time it's scarier. Her condition is the worst it's ever been and the surgery is very high risk.

Nothing can happen to her. I won't be able to live without her. I know I made a promise to move on, but I can't. No one can ever compare to m'lady. She's my everything.

"We got you some stuff to eat." Nino says as he and Luka hold out a back filled with snacks and drinks. "I'm not hungry." "You need to eat." Luka says.

"I'm not in the mood right now." "Adrikins, you haven't eaten all day. Marinette would kill you if she knew." "Chlo's right Adrien. You need to eat something." I sigh and take the bag. "Thanks."

Hours pass and still nothing. "What the hell is taking so long?" I ask as I pace around the room. "That's a good sign right? If there's no updates then that must mean nothing is going wrong."

"It could be that or that it's going terrible and they need everyone in the room." I say. "Don't think that way Adrien. She's going to be okay." "I hope so."

Everyone looks up as Plagg and Tikki enter the waiting room. "How is she?" I ask. "She's okay." "She is?" I ask with a sigh of relief. "We gave her enough time for the anesthesia to wear off and the first person she asked for was you Adrien."

~Marinette~
I look up and see Adrien run into the room. He runs up to me and pulls me into a hug. I wince in pain and he immediately pulls away. "Oh my god! I'm so sorry Mari." "No don't be. It just hurt for a second." I say and pull him back into the hug.

"I was so scared. I thought I was going to lose you." "You could never lose me Agreste." He pulls away from the hug and smiles. I see tears form in his eyes before they slide down his cheeks. I lift my hand and wipe them."Don't cry. I'm okay Agreste." "I know. I'm just so happy you're still here." He places his lips on mine.

Adrien and I turn our heads when we hear someone clear their throat. "We get that you're in love and all, but let us give a hug to our best friend." I giggle as Alya pushes Adrien aside and he rolls his eyes.

Alya and Chloe gently pull me into a hug. "Don't scare us like that again." Chloe says as they pull away.

Emile and Gabriel rush into the room and pull me into a hug as well. "We're so glad you're okay."

Nino and Luka walk into the room and pull me into a hug once Emilie and Gabriel move aside.

"Now that everyone's here I'm glad to announce that as of now, Marinette is officially cancer free!" Tikki says and I feel tears form in my eyes as they all clap. Adrien smiles and pulls me into another kiss.

"Save it for the wedding!" Alya teases. "The wedding! Oh my gosh! Hand me my journal we need to start planning!" Adrien chuckles. "We have a lot of time to plan. We have to wait until you make up with your parents."

"Actually we don't." "I thought you wanted them there." "I did but not anymore. They haven't been here for me at all, so they don't deserve to celebrate the happiest day of my life with us." He smiles and places another soft kiss on my lips. "I love you so much." "I love you more Agreste."
