Chapter 15

Debby's POV

I sat at where I was siting while Jeff came over to my side

I was still trying to eat s'mores

I never seemed to get it right

"Hey." Jeff said

"Hi."

"You need help with that?"

"I can do it." I said burning my fifth marshmallow

"Here."

"Thanks."

"Listen Jeff I'm sorry that you had a terrible afternoon with me. It's 'cuz I get really nervous around guys...." I said shyly

"Oh.... It's alright." He said

"Why don't we just start over." I suggested

"Alright."

"Why don't we start with stories." I suggested

"Ok. You go first." He told me

"Well you know why I don't want to do the dare that Charles said...."

"Yeah... It 'cuz you don't know how to swim."

"Yeah....... That's not the only reason......"

"Shoot." He said

"When I was young, I actually drowned twice and the second time was the last. The second was actually pretty embarrassing."

"Tell me." He said

"Come on...... PLEEEEAAAAAASSSEEEEEE." Jeff whined blinking his eyes prettily

Which made me laugh

"I was around 6 years old and my cousin was swimming in the big pool while I stayed in the kiddie pool. I felt lonely staying in the kiddie pool so I went to the big pool and stayed in the stairs then when my cousin started playing I tried to join in and well my hand left the stairs' railing and I started to drown. My cousin saw me and quickly came over to help me and I also heard a loud splash and saw that a lifeguard jumped in the pool but my cousin got to me first so that was a bit embarrassing to the life guard." I said

"Ohh... Poor lifeguard.... You couldn't have let him save you??" He said

"Wait the story's not over." I said laughing a bit

"A few years went by and we went back there and they asked us if everyone who was going to swim knows how to swim." I said laughing and recalling the memory of the lifeguard

"Hahaha nice! You might have just saved tons of drowning kids!"

"Yeah and well that was pretty embarrassing hahaha."

"Your turn!" I shouted

"Well I can't compare mine with your story for sure. What do you want me to tell you?"

"Well do you remember when you told Amber that you have kissed a girl before."

"Yeah... What about it?"

"Well I saw Ryan and Charles exchange glances. What was that about?"

"Oh I should tell you our story."

He told me everything about how he transferred and how Charles helped him and stuff. He also, might I say, bragged how he had a lot of girls chase after him.

"Why'd you transfer?" I asked

"Truth is back in my old school the people who I thought were my friends were just jerks. One day after a basketball match, my dad picked me up. I don't want to get into any details but we ended up in a car crash. I broke my left arm and right leg and had to stay in the hospital for a long time. After a few days, I thought that my friends would come to the hospital to check on me but none came. Spending a lot of time in the hospital made me think about things in general. One day when I was watching tv in my room in the hospital, one of my nurses came in and told me I had a visitor. I was shocked at first and told her to let them in. To my surprise it was Charles who came to visit me. He told me that he tried to come sooner but had a lot of stuff to do, but for me just having him there was the best thing. He came by a often as he could and that's when the thought of me transferring to Bay Bridge started. I told my mom and she agreed to it so that's that." He said looking a bit sad

"What happened to your dad?"

"He... passed away on the car cash....."

"I'm sorry." I said comforting him

"It's ok."

We just sat there my head on his shoulder and staring at the blazing fire

Charles's POV

I took a big blanket for Amber and I to lie on.

We walked as far away as we could from the bonfire so that we wouldn't disturb Jeff and Debby.

I placed the blanket on the sand and we laid there.
