"Aza, Come on," Kai nudged me.

"I don't wanna go," I muttered quietly.

I had slept in Kai's room again last night. I had been having nightmares and unable to sleep but when staying with him it seemed to fade away, "Come on it's your first day of school."

"So what?"

"So, you can't be late."

I groaned all the way to the hallway but caught a glimpse of my Aunt Reyna leaving out the front door. I shrugged it off and put on the simple ripped jeans. When I went to grab a sweatshirt I noticed them all stuffed in the laundry basket.

I put on a temporary teeshirt walking into Kai's room, "Kai? Can I borrow a sweatshirt?"

"Mine are all in the laundry, Sorry kid."

I went with second best heading to Sutton's and knocked on the door, "Come in," Sutton had just barely wrapped the towel around his waist when I came in.

"Dude, warn me next time."

"What?! I was covered up by the time you walked in."

"Whatever. All my sweatshirts are dirty do you have one I can borrow?"

"Um... maybe."

He walked into his closet flipping the light switch, "Uh I think this one is closest to your size."

He handed me the forest green sweatshirt with army written across the front, "Thanks Sutton," I smiled closing his door again.

As I came downstairs holding the old black North Face backpack and put it against the door before walking into the kitchen, "I made you a little to-go breakfast," My grandma handed me a toasted bagel with raspberry cream cheese.

"How'd you know this was my favorite?" I asked grinning.

"A grandma knows," She smiled, "Oh and," She handed me the reusable Starbucks cup, "It's not Starbucks, it's your grandma's own chai tea latte- That one your dad told me."

I hugged her tightly, "Thanks, Grandma."

"Oh, you're welcome honey."

Happily grabbing my keys with half the bagel in my mouth I saw Kai walking downstairs, "Bye Dad," I said without even thinking.

"Hey, where's my hug?" He laughed. I sighed giving him a quick hug and then ran out to my car. I put the address to the school into my phone but after a while just followed the kids with all the passes in their windows.

Where'd I spent the last couple of years, was a podunk, but nice town. Old trucks and beaters with a heater. No one bought their kid a new car and if they did, the kid bought it themselves. This was certainly not the case here.

I pulled into the lot looking around. It very well could have been a car dealership. I followed the signs till I saw senior parking and pulled in next to a Range Rover and a truck. I turned my music down and looked around mid-sip of my coffee to see people talking and pointing at my car.

I was scared to open the door seeing that the windows were tinted enough that no one could really see in. But ultimately the bell rang and I had to get out.

"Holy shit," A guy said wide-eyed. I looked around and not a senior soul wasn't staring at me.

Wait, this attention was positive. I never got this.

Own it Aza.

I took full advantage of it and grabbed the sunglasses absorbing the attention.
