The music was at an astronomically loud level, and the humid grossness of the gym irked Catra's soul. Her fur was sweating under her suit and her hair just wouldn't sit right.

She was at a school dance, but not for her. For her kid. They said something about getting extra credit if she volunteered to chaperone, so she did. And did she regret agreeing? A tiny bit. She loved Finn with all of her heart, but this was ridiculous.

Catra watched as immature 8th graders ran around playing tag, stood lamely next to their dates, and spilled punch all over the gym floor. It was horrible. She sighed and went over to stand by the wall.

Catra wasn't exactly popular or unpopular in middle school, she was... ok maybe she was with the cool kids. The ones who... what did cool kids do in middle school? Oh right, she didn't do her homework or participate. It was a shame because she was actually pretty smart, but she got with the wrong crowd. And they influenced her heavily.

Her grades were fucked when she got to high school, turns out she needed some of the credit she was supposed to earn in middle school. But, lucky for her, she caught up and managed to graduate early.

It was pretty lonely after that, so maybe she wasn't that lucky after all. And when you're lonely, you seek company wherever you can find it, and unlucky it was with a woman who would screw her over and leave her with a baby.

After having Finn, Catra tried to go back to school, but that was hard with a baby and no support. It was just them, she and her baby. But, they weren't a baby anymore.

Catra saw them dancing with a girl, she was pretty and had an off the shoulder dress on. A secret girlfriend perhaps?

" Excuse me." A voice said next to her, spooking her a bit. Her eyes widened and her breathing sped up at the surprise.

"I'm sorry! I didn't mean to scare you." The voice said frantically, and Catra turned her head to see who it was.

Wow.

She was in awe, this woman in front of her was gorgeous. Her hair was down and styled back, making some kind of a poof. And she had a red jumpsuit that showed off her impressively long legs.

What. This was the principal. If it wasn't more apparent by her walkie talkie clipped to her hip and a lanyard full of keys and her ID.

Catra straightened (if that was even possible) and tried to make herself look focused when talking to this important woman.

" No, you didn't scare me at all." She said, trying to appear nonchalant. It would've worked if her fur didn't puff up from under her suit, giving her away.

The blonde woman stuck her hand out quickly and Catra shook it, she had a firm grip and her eyes were laser focused on their hands. While talking, she introduced herself, as if the whole school didn't know who she was.

" Hi, I'm Adora, or Principal Grayskull. And sorry for the whole sneaking up on you thing." She said, her tone sincere. Catra gestured beside her and the woman silenced her radio and stood on the wall next to her.

Catra introduced herself. " I'm Catra D'riluth. That one's mom." She pointed to Finn, they were doing some sort of handstand, trying to impress their date. It seemed to work because the girl was covering her face with her hand and blushing.

" Oh! Finn's your kid? They're wonderful." Adora said, turning her head to face Catra. The magicat raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms, skeptical. " You're telling me, you didn't know that was my baby?"

Finn was the only magicat in the school, it seemed obvious that Catra was their mother. Maybe it was an " I don't want to be offensive, so I'll feign ignorance" kind of thing.

Adora held her hands up in defense, a goofy smile coming across her face, " Okay, I didn't want to assume. Families come in all sorts of ways."

Catra laughed. She laughed so hard her ribs hurt. This woman was so ridiculous, but in a good way. " I'm glad you're conscientious, I wouldn't want my baby to go do a speciesist school."

Adora eyes widened and she waved her hands quickly, her keys making wild jingle sounds at the movement. "Oh no. No no no no. Not here. We have a no tolerance policy for that kind of stuff." She sighed when she finished talking, like she was out of breath.

It was a joke, but Catra was actually glad it was in place, she wasn't afraid to put her hands on another kid if they were to harass or hit her own.

" That's good." She said.

Then, there was silence or, as much silence you can get in a rowdy gym. Catra tapped her foot on the ground to the music and looked at the dance floor for Finn, but couldn't find them. Maybe they went to get some more punch?

" I have a question to ask." Adora said, her voice laced with a twinge of hesitation.

Catra swiveled her head around to the blonde and gave a " go ahead" look. The principal sighed and made eye contact with her. The room was slightly dark, but Catra had no problem seeing. Adora, on the other hand, was squinting a little.

"It's important," She said, her light and airy voice carrying Catra.

Catra nodded. Her sharp nose caught the smell of Adora's shampoo, a light flowery scent. Was this a little weird? Yes. She was making goo goo eyes with her child's principal, very weird. But she deserved a little excitement in her life.

She knew what question was coming, and she braced for it.

"Are you single?" She asked, almost in a whisper. Not what she expected. Maybe more of a "where's the other parent?", or something along those lines. It shocked her, she was never asked about herself.

Then, Catra answered, her eyes flicking down to Adora's lips. " Yes, do you want to date me or something?"

Adora leaned back from the closeness and smirked.

Wow again. Could this woman get any hotter?

"Maybe. Let's talk later. I gotta go." The woman said, walking away from her, heels clicking as she walked.

What the hell just happened.
