When Catra walked through the door, Adora whipped her head around and ran to her, pulling her into a tight hug. The magicat closed her eyes and breathed her in, petting her ponytail and trying to console her. She pulled back from the hug and wrapped her arms around the woman's neck.
"What do we do?" Adora asked.
"You're a principal? You don't know what to do?" Catra asked, searching her face.
"I've only been one for two years! And nothing like this has happened at school," Adora said, mildly panicking. Catra stuck to what she said earlier. "Look, Adora. Finn left because they wanted to leave, we can't waste time searching Thaymor, hoping we miraculously find them. All that we can do is...wait." It was hard to come to that conclusion, but that's what was needed.
They couldn't be in public searching for them because what would that say for Adora's responsibility? She would surely be fired, and that would make matters worse.
Adora nodded and went back over to the couch, foot tapping on the floor and hands in her lap. The magicat sat next to her and put her hand over the blonde's fidgeting ones.
Hours passed by after that, Adora made Catra dinner, but couldn't eat herself. The blonde looked tired, she moved around sluggishly and worried Catra. "I'm just going to go to sleep, it's better if I just sleep and be unaware of what's going on." Adora said, heading to the bedroom, glancing back at Catra, and closing the door.
Catra wanted to be mad, but she couldn't. Finn was hurt, and this was their way of showing it. She spent so many years babying them, it never gave them real room to grow. At this point, they should've already spent the night alone, or slept in their own room the whole week.
The tv bursted with colors and sounds, but she wasn't watching. It was 11, and Finn was yet to come home. Plenty of calls had been made to their phone, to no avail. When the clock hit 12, Catra was filing a missing person's report.
Her ear twitched, then she knew. They came home. The door made clicking sounds and soon the room was filled with the light coming from outside the apartment door.
Catra moved around to see Finn walking in, a large coat on and a bag over their shoulder. "Mom." Finn said, coming out small and distant.
To match the energy they were putting out, Catra replied. "Finn."
A word was not spoken after The backpack was put on the kitchen table and they walked over to the couch and sat next to her, clicking the lamp next to them.
They were encompassed in soft yellow light, making the situation they were in more mellow than it was. Catra faced her kid and shrugged her shoulders, wanting them to speak.
Their eyes went down and back up, seemingly unsure. "I was angry." They said simply, still not making eye contact with Catra.
"Okay, that's valid."
Blue eyes quickly looked into hers, "you're not mad?"
Catra shook her head. "No, I'm not. In fact, I should've expected this sooner."
Finn stared in confusion, their mouth twitching. "What does that mean?"
"It means that I did the same thing when I was your age, so I know." Catra explained, looking at the tv, feigning nonchalance.
"Wha—I don't understand?" They said, jaw tight.
Catra crossed her legs and folded her hands in her lap. "Finn, you did this because you were angry, right?"
