The dance came and went, Catra staying home. Finn didn't ask her to chaperone and it would've been weird for Adora to ask her to come with her, so it was just her. As she looked at the tv in front of her, she thought about how her family's integrity really was.

Finn was still weird around her, as if they suddenly went cold turkey with their affection. Their hugs and cuddles turned into slight nods and hums when she spoke to them. It hurt. And Adora's problem was so simple, just treat them like her kid? Catra had been doing that for 13 years!

She huffed and sunk further in the couch, pouting to herself. She had no idea how to fix it. Sheltering them and taking their love had it's issues, but they seemed perfectly fine with it. Finn grew up quickly in two months, it had to be unhealthy to act like that so quickly.

And of course, it was Tanya's fault. She was at fault for everything; ruining their first vacation, traumatizing Finn, and making them turn against Catra.

She just wanted it over with. She wanted Finn back the way they used to be, unashamed to love her. She wanted to be mommy again.

"Mommy, look what I drew!"

Catra looked up and to her kid, who was bounding over to her, a smile with a few teeth missing. They had a paper in their hand, it was red construction paper shaped into a heart. She moved her laptop away and held the paper in front of her.

"Aw! What is this baby?" Catra said, grinning at her child. They pointed a little finger and the pictures inside of the heart, explaining to her.

"Ok, mommy, this is you," they pointed to a drawing of what was supposed to be Catra. She was scribbled a dark orange color with her hair box shaped, resembling her bob haircut. "And this is me." They continued, showing Catra their depiction of themselves, a yellow blob with a short brown scribble at the top.

The title, clearly written by their teacher, said "Happy Valentine's Day, draw you and who you love the most!" Catra felt tears swell in her eyes and she sniffled, glancing back up at Finn, who was waiting for her response.

"Baby, this is amazing. I love you so much." She set the paper down and stretched her arms out, letting Finn accept her hug, snuggling in her hold. She tightened her arms around them and took in their scent.

"I love you too, mommy."

They never went out that night, Catra too caught up in her thoughts... and Adora was just tired. They put a rain check on it and planned to have another date night, just not on that day.

The days went by quickly, but not really. It was more of an agonizing rollercoaster. Adora suggested to solve her problem with Finn with a day out. It could work, their birthday was coming up, so she could say it was for that.

She walked up to the kid, who was doing their homework at the kitchen table, cheek in their palm as they worked, tail lazily moving. As she walked up, their ears twitched and they looked up, expression bored.

"Can I sit next to you?" She asked leaning on the back of the chair next to where they sat. Finn nodded and she sat, glad she got this far. After that, they got back to work, writing on the graph paper they had. Catra really didn't have a game plan.

"Uh, why don't we go to the mall later? Your birthday is coming up soon and I thought we could pick something out." She said, crossing her ankle over her knee and shaking it nervously.

They put the pencil down and looked up to her, blue eyes piercing. "Is Mama going?" They asked. Catra shook her head, "nope she has some training today. So just us, yay!" She cheered a little. At Finn's non responsive expression, she deflated.
