Awkward grunting noises

The day dragged on, I secretly couldn't wait to get to the Grill but when I saw Tate in the halls at school I gave him cold glances, he just chuckled in response. I really need to stop that or I will lose him but I can't! It's the only thing I know how to do. Maybe if I had some friends, who are girls, they could get me on the right track. That's it. I have 5 periods left until lunch, I can make a friend in that time.
I'm sure that my mind has not caught up to my actions because I stood right up, walked over to a girl laughing with her friends and spoke.
"Hi, I'm Violet" I said, but at that moment my mind understood what just happened and I had an uncontrollable urge to run. But lucky for me, I had learned to control uncontrollable urges thanks to my smoking addiction at a young age.

The girls looked surprises, maybe even shocked. Maybe they were battling their urges to run because they looked like they had a loss of words. Finally the girl in the back of the circle nudged the girl I meant to speak to. She made an quiet, awkward, grunting noise and spoke up.
"Hi, sorry. I'm Jenelle, this is Lisa, Aron, Glacier and Berrey."

Now I had a loss of words, not because I was shocked, but because I was bad with small talk. I thought of a LifeTime movie. What would the cheesy main character say?

"Nice to meet you, wow you guys have really unique names! That's really cool!"
Who am I?And what happened to the real Violet. Old Violet would have thought that their cheesy parents were going out on a limb to name their little white daughter something original. In fact they tried too hard.
'not even gonna say their names, I'll think of some better nicknames for them' I thought.

"Thank you, I always thought Violet was a beautiful name!" said Glacier
"We were just heading to the library for our free period, do you want to come?" asked Lisa.

God thanks you for offering, this conversation was going absolutely nowhere. It wasn't like a LifeTime movie, more like a goosebumps episode.

"Sure, I have free period now too, such a coincidence!" I said a little too excited.
I don't know why I am acting like this, but at least I didn't say "co-ink-i-dink".

We headed to the library making random jokes and Aron kept pointing out unnoticeable weird stuff on the walls and saying it made her "OCD tingle"

I guess it is safe to say I hate them, but I need friends so why not. Rome wasn't built in a day.

When we got to the library I was so worn out, they were the people I spent my days mentally strangling, the people that wore patterned leggings with quoted shirts and thought they were being "fashion forward", the people that quote mean girls like crazy and try to fall in love with bad boys, they're the people that talk about period cramps in complete private and freak out if some one overhears.
I CAN'T STAND THESE PEOPLE!
A year ago, if I saw myself today I would have been so disappointed.
But I need advice on boys and who's better at that than "girlfriends" after I get the advice I am gone like my sanity.

20 minutes of them rambling about random stuff when they remembered I was new to them.
"OHEMGEE VIOLET! TELL US!" Screamed Berrey, so spontaneously that I almost got a heart attack.
"Tell you what?"
They all smiled at each other and giggled like four year olds.
"Are there any BOIIIISSSS that you like?!?!" They screamed

Finally I can get my advice and leave.

"Actua-" I started but I couldn't finish because they all screeched like angry seagulls.

"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
Then came the bombardment of questions.
How do you know him?
Is he cute?
Oh course he's cute, and smart right?
How old is he?
Is he a college boy?
Does he like you?
Have you talked to him?
Do we know him?
Did you know him before rehab?
OMG don't say that, does that offend you Violet?
IMSUHSORRY DO YA FARGIVE MEEEH?

I couldn't take any more of their endless rambling so I did what any annoyed person would do. I started rambling louder than them. This wasn't a good idea because we are in a library. 😁

I filled them in, leaving out his name. No rush in that, I can tell them later.

They started giving me the advice. Most of it was trash like Aron saying she will give me a pretty outfit that she has ready in her locker. Here comes the nickname part.

"Jeez A, you are a real life saver, but I don't think I need a new outfit. I'm kinda trying to keep this casual, and in order to do that I shouldn't change into more than one outfit at school," I say carefully because I don't want a scream fest.

"okay I totally understand, but at least let us do your hair!" Aron yelps.

I am about to answer with something so nasty it would send them running to hide in the locker room when the bell rang and my anger passed. I stood up, pushed my chair in, nodded in their direction and left without saying a word. Go Me!
