lost in rummaging

Violets POV
I found my way to school after only two wrong turns and almost getting hit by a car only once. I haven't been in the real world for months, don't blame me on forgetting how roads work. I walked up Magnolia St. and saw the big red building I used to see as a deep dark hole with no end, now I see an opportunity. I walked up to the doors and pushed them open. Once they were opened I walked right in and my heart stopped. In place of all the people I felt threatened by, there was a big banner saying "Welcome Back Violet!" and half of the whole school population stood there chanting "we missed you" I got hugs from people I've never met and hand shakes from the people that I was afraid of. Of course I would never tell them that. In the back of the crowd I say Tate, but I ignored him and tried to get him to give me some space. I couldn't make friends with someone attached to me. I looked around and everyone looked different. Their rude personalities must have changed from the death scare I gave them. They hopefully realized how fragile even the strongest person could be. The people made a tunnel by locking their hands with someone across them and told me to walk through. I walked and walked until I realized it was leading to my class. I walked in and saw the familiar scene of white boards, desks, and cheesy motivational posters. Once I was deep in the classroom the principal and his stern, deep voice scattered everyone out of the halls.
"OKAY PEOPLE, FUNS OVER GET TO CLASS"
I walked up to the teachers desk and he gave me a textbook, worksheet and told me he didn't have assigned seats so I could sit wherever I wanted. Of course I picked the one in the back by the window. While I waited for the 4 minute passing period to be over I decided to look through my backpack to see exactly how many pencils, pens, notebooks, erasers, papers and all that stuff I had. I rummaged through my backpack to kill time because I was truly bored, already when I had gotten to school 15 minutes ago. I was so interested and invested in my rummaging that I didn't notice a mop of blond hair staring at me from the desk next to mine. Of course it was Tate.
"Well hello there, Ditchy." he said, which made me giggle, yes giggle which I now know is possible.

"hello, mysterious blondie" I answered

"blonde? yes, but mysterious? No Way! I am an open book" he said.

"oh obviously, that's why I know so much about you!" I teased.

"so that's why you ditched me this morning. Stranger Danger?" he said.

I prepared to say a very smart comeback that would surely shut him up, the bell rang, signaling our 4 minutes were over and class would begin. So I stuck my tongue out at him. This caused him to laugh, not in a teasing way, but in a surprised way.

English class was still as I left it. Boring!

I looked out the window, read the cheesy posters, and looked around the room trying to remember the stories of the faces in the room. I tried to remember who were the quiets, the loud, the loners or lovers, the druggies, athletes, attention seekers, basics, smarts, and all of the rest. I tried hard to remember but the past shock therapy made that hard, since the therapy made me forget most useless information. I shuddered at the memory.

I got bored of doing all that so I focused on my teacher voice and watched him pace around the room aggressively lecturing. I zoned out to my own thought. Minutes later I was awoken from my zone at the feeling of a hand on my desk. I looked down and the hand was gone, in it's place was a note. I immediately looked over at Tate who was giving me a playful look and gesturing for me to read the note.

"Wow, Ditchy you look motivated to learn ;)
P.S. I'm really not that mysterious meet me at the Hulson Grill after school and I can change your opinion. What do you say?"

I hesitated and gave him an annoyed look, though I wasn't really that annoyed, I was more intrigued and eager. It wasn't something I have felt before and I wasn't sure what it really was I was feeling, I needed some feminine advice. Too bad I didn't have any friends. God I missed Lana.
I set my attention back to the note and finally wrote a reply.

"Can we go at lunch instead?"

I threw it at him and looked away, but I kept stealing glances at him trying my best to read him. Finally the bell rang and he said

"Can't wait, Ditchy."
