Chapter 26

Lucas's POV: I was peacefully sleeping when someone started banging on my door. I got up, went downstairs.

Toby: What?

Lucas: I don't know - I opened the front door and it was Jake

Jake: I need a ride. Now! Erika is hurt

Lucas: Stay here! - I told Toby. I got my keys and went to the car with Jake. I was wearing sweatpants, that's it. No shoes, no shirt, nothing. Just some old sweatpants, because I was sleeping.
I usually take 15 minutes to get to Rik's house. I got there in 4. We got out of the car and ran into the house. We went to the backyard. And Dani was just sitting on the floor with ice on her ankle.

Erika: Hey?

Jake: What?

Erika: What? - everyone looked lost and confused

Lucas: Dani.

Dani: She fell! Mom wasn't here! I was freaking out! - I hugged her from the side

Erika: You called Jake??

Dani: I'm sorry

Jake: You're ok tho?

Erika: Yeah I'm fine. I just twisted my ankle. - Jake sat down near him

Jake: God my heart is beating so fast

Erika: Aww. I didn't know she called you

Jake: No it's ok. I'm glad she did. I was just worried. Like seriously worried. But you're ok, that's all that matters - he kissed her forehead

Erika: Where are your shoes?

Lucas: This dude bangs on my door like the world is ending. Tells me to get in the car cause you were hurt, sounding like you were dying. I didn't even think. I just got the keys. I don't have anything with me

Erika: Lol

Lucas: Can I use your phone?

Erika: Sure

I got her phone and called Toby, let him know everything was ok.

Lucas: Let me take a look - I took the ice pack off and looked at her ankle - It's swollen, but it's not broken. Hold on - I pressed it a little bit

Erika: Ow!

Lucas: Breath - I pressed again and she grabbed Jake's hand - It's a stretched tendon. Do you still have that ointment?

Erika: Yeah

Lucas: Put it a little bit. Try not to walk too much today.

Erika: Yes sir

Dani: How did you know what to do?

Lucas: I've done this.. like a thousand times.

Dani: Ohh. Because of soccer?

Lucas: Yeah.

Erika was trying to get up. Jake helped her up then he picked her up

Erika: Babe

Jake: What?

Erika: There's no need

Jake: Yes there is. Where you want to go? I'll take you

Erika: My room - she giggled

Lucas: Little park hangout later. You got a carrier

Jake: Yeah no problem

Erika: Ok sounds good. Text the group chat

Lucas: Alright. Laters

Erika: Bye

Lucas: See you later little girl - Dani hugged me and I got back in the car and went home. Normal speed this time. I got home and Toby was waiting

Toby: What happened dude?

Lucas: Dani got scared and freaked out. But it wasn't a big deal. Just a stretched tendon

Toby: Still sucks. But she'll be fine

Lucas: Yeah. Little hangout, picnic kinda of thing later. You want to go?

Toby: Can I take my friends?

Lucas: 2 of them, sure

Toby: Yes! I'll talk to them and get ready.

Lucas: Alright

He went upstairs, called his friends house. Set everything with them. I just had to pick them up and drop them off afterwards. We got dressed, got some food, put it on a little bag and got in the car. I picked up his friends and we headed to the car to meet the crew.

Eventually we were all hanging at the park. The crew, plus Toby, Nick and Liz, we all came, to enjoy the sun and the good weather and have some fun.

I was playing soccer with the boys, we were having fun, then I got kinda tired. I laid down near Chloe and she was messing with my hair.

Lucas: What you're gonna do tomorrow night?

Chloe: I don't know. Why?

Lucas: It's game night, some pizza and stuff like that. Wanna come?

Chloe: Yeah, sounds good - we were chilling and talking for a while and eventually the girls called Chloe to take some pics. Being careful with Rik's foot. Jake was being extra protective, but he was trying to take care of her.
The kids found a little group and they were all playing. Then Toby came near me

Toby: Hey - he said breathing heavily. He sat down, I gave him some water

Lucas: Someone's tired - he nodded his head

Toby: So - he got a cookie - What's going on?

Lucas: With who?

Toby: You and Chloe

Lucas: Nothing

Toby: Come on, there's no one here. - I sighed - Well?

Lucas: Toby.

Toby: Lucas come on. Can you tell me you don't like her?

Lucas: No..

Toby: Exactly! So what's the problem?

Lucas: There was never a problem, we just don't want to hurt each other again.

Toby: Then don't

Lucas: Working on it.

Toby: What happened last time? You liked her

Lucas: It was something like.. two broken hearts make one type of thing. Then when we started "healing", it got too crowded. So we took separate ways to finish healing. If that makes sense

Toby: It does.. But now you can be together again

Lucas: You really like her

Toby: Yeah. And so do you. So don't blow it bro, seriously.

Lucas: Yes sir - we chuckled

He went back to the park and that kinda stuck in my head. Yeah I totally get what he said. And I agree. We're just living the moment you know?
