Chapter 33

Erika's POV: Typical Wednesday. It's not the laziness from the beginning of the week and it's not the excitement for the weekend it's just.. meh.

I got up, changed, went downstairs to eat some breakfast.

JC: You look dead

Erika: Jeez thanks JC, just what I wanted to hear before going to school - he chuckled and kept eating. I went basic, ate some cereals.  

I was going to my car but mom said she would drop me off instead. I told her to hurry up but it was the same as if I didn't. She took her time, let's say.

We finally got to school. I went inside, a bit late. I got to the classroom and some old lady was standing there next to our biology teacher.

Lady: You are late

Erika: I'm sorry, my mom's car - she interrupted me, tho I was about to lie so good thing she did

Lady: I don't care. Sit down. - I did.. that was mean..  - I'm Mrs.Depner. I'm here today to evaluate your class. What's the name of the girl that got here late?

Lucas: Like 2 minutes

Mrs.Depner: Name?

Erika: Erika Costell - she wrote it down, god what a pain in the ass

Mrs.Depner: Excuse me. You - she pointed at Ryan - Throw the gum out.

Ryan: Why? I'm not making any noise

Mrs.Depner: Now. - Ryan got up mumbling something and threw the gum out. -  Do you tolerate this kind of behavior in your class? - he asked the teacher. Before he could say anything Lucas talked

Lucas: No. No gum, no food, no water

Mrs.Depner: Good - Lucas and the teacher looked at each other and kinda talked just with looks - Well you may start your class. I'll sit in the back of the classroom. - she sat right next to Lucas, behind Ryan, great spot lady

Teacher: Ok everyone. Let's do this.- he wrote something down - So! What can you tell me about PCR? 

Kalani: Polymerase chain reaction

Teacher: Good, explain

Kalani: Hmm 

Lucas: It's a method used to rapidly make millions to billions of copies of a specific DNA portion from a small sample

Kalani: What he said - everyone started laughing, besides Depner of course

Teacher: Great. What are they used for? 

Ryan: For like identifying someone. 

Teacher: Go on

Ryan:  So we can get a small sample of DNA in a crime scene for example and compare that with suspects DNA or DNA database

Teacher: Perfect. - the class went on, our science teacher really has the super power of keeping everyone interested in the class, it truly is a super power. That old lady was always writing stuff in her notebook, she wouldn't smile, wouldn't laugh, anything at all. 

Kade: Ok so, Taq Polymerase is a DNA polymerase enzyme that will synthesize new strands of DNA? 

Teacher: Perfect 

Tony: Well that he never was - we all started laughing and Mrs.Depner seemed unhappy

Mrs.Depner: That was an inappropriate behavior. 

Tony: What? Are you offended? He has a girlfriend ma'am 

Class: HAHAHAHAHAHA 

Mrs.Depner: Aren't you going to discipline your students?  

Teacher: How do you suggest? - he asked and sighed

Mrs.Depner: Send him to the principal's office of course 

Teacher: Hm I don't think..

Lucas: Tony - I whispered to him 

Tony: Yeah yeah - he got up - It's fine. I'm on my way. - he got his things

Teacher: No, Tony, sit down. Please. This is my class, and until second orders, I run it as I want to. 

Josh: Damn! 

Dani: Period! 

We continued the class and this time Mrs.Depner kept her comments to herself, which everyone appreciated. The class was good, like usual. 

Eventually the bell rang. The lady got her things and left. The class left as well, Lucas, Ryan, Dani and I stood to talk to the teacher 

Erika: Who was that? 

Lucas: She meant what was that? - the teacher chuckled and rolled his eyes 

Teacher: I know as much as you guys. Never seen that lady before, didn't know there was going to be an evaluation on my class 

Dani: Can they do that? 

Ryan: Well apparently they can 

Dani: You snapped tho

Teacher: I didn't snap 

Erika: You put her in her place, as you should

Teacher: What are you guys going to do now? 

Lucas: Nothing. 

Teacher: Free period? 

Lucas: Advisory 

Teacher: I thought those were mandatory

Ryan: The teacher decided that it was better not having us there than having us there turning those thirty minutes into chaos - he chuckled 

Teacher: I'll see you guys tomorrow then 

Us: Bye - he left the classroom and so did we. Jake was there holding a backpack 

Jake: Here 

Lucas: I like mine better, than you 

Jake: It's Chloe's, she went to her locker get something - Lucas got it

Jake: Now what? 

Erika: I'm hungry

Dani: Same 

Lucas: Dunkin? 

Ryan: Yes - they fist bumped 

We waited for Chloe then headed to Dunkin' Donuts. We had an hour, the advisory plus the break, we had enough time. There were six of us, but Lucas came in his motorcycle, the rest of us got in Jake's car and headed to Dunkin' for a extended coffee break
