Ruy shook his head, "I don't know, but Sophie Foster does."
・・・
"Sophieeeee, where are we? Why can't you tell me just one thing." She looked back at the poor lost gnome behind her. "Flori just trust me, I know what I'm doing." And Sophie Foster for a fact had entirely no idea where they were doing. She pinched the bridge of her nose and marched cluelessly through what she hoped was the city of Rifthold.
"If my guess to where we are is true, then we would be dead. Because no matter how great magic is and how unbelievably lucky I am, this is not possible." Flori goes on about how she wasn't giving her straight answers and that it's not magic but abilities. "Flori, you don't get it. We're in my book." Sophie watched as the gnome started to realize why she had been so shocked and why she herself couldn't figure out where they were.
This is like what happened to Alex Bailey in The Land of Stories, it's just she didn't think they were in the book, but in the book's universe. You see in The Land of Stories, the characters couldn't bleed or if they did it would be adjectives describing them pouring out. Looking out to the city, there was a fallen boy and instead of words, it was blood.
"Flip that, we aren't in the book, we're in another universe. The universe of the book." Seeing an older woman on the side, Sophie rushes up to her telling Flori to stay back. "Excuse me, do you know where we are? I was traveling with my family and I got lost in the crowd, I don't know where they are or where I am." She looks at me one more time, "Yes, your in the heart of Adarlan. What is your name child, I know everyone in the city by heart, I can help find your family."
Sophie cringes, not knowing what to say. "My name is Lillian Brackyn, and I don't think—," she stops as the woman's face gets suspicious. "Excuse me for asking, but are you the daughter of Diana Brackyn?" Shit, well, she did say she knew everyone. "No, but she might be a distant cousin?" The old lady doesn't buy it, "Come with me young lady, I think the King would want to see you."
She tries to step away from the crone, but hands at her back keep her in place. "Don't struggle, you'll cause attention." The man doesn't give a hint to who he is, but the old lady is walking straighter and looks...younger. Being forced through the gates, she keeps a look out for Flori, not wanting her friend to suffer from her probable fate. Being shoved to the ground, she wished that she had the book or could use her abilities—but if she used them she'd give up her advantage.
"What is this?" A voice demands, "Why is there a young girl here, what importance is this, and who are you all?" Looking up Sophie sees the still young King of Adarlan and the stone faced Queen of the Witches. "I'm offended that you don't recognize us, Your Majesty." This time the voice comes from a new person, but when she looks it's still the two cloaked figures that nabbed her.
The Queen laughs, "We should have known it wouldn't be too long before she sent you guys here, with Evie's birthday coming up." The man doesn't think it's funny, "We still aren't her dogs Manon, I'm her cousin and blood sworn and Lys is her best friend, she wouldn't trust anyone else with this job."
"Not even Fenrys?" Holy shit, she knew who she was with now, that's why the crone knew who her alias was and got suspicious. She sucked in a deep breath that drew their attention and bowed deeply, hoping her compliance would get her off the hook. "I won't ask again, who is she?" The man I assume is Aedion snorts, "Like hell if we know, but she knows Aelin enough to use her fake names as her own alias."
"If she's a traitor can I drink her blood?" She tried to stifle a laugh at the Witch Queen, You'll find that my blood doesn't taste good. The Queen goes still and Sophie mentally curses herself for using telepathy. "Shit!" Everyone looked back to her, Flori! I need you to get here ASAP, bring the book. The book is the most important thing right now. And did Calla tell you anything about my abilities being more...like they transform into something more.
Mr. Forkle was supposed to tell you. Irresponsible elf. Welp, that's not good. Iron nails came out and wrapped around my neck, "What the hell was that kid!" Trying to breathe, Sophie grabbed the hand at her neck, "Would you...believe...me...if I...said it...was magic?" The hand got tighter until Sophie was losing her vision, "Manon, stop, you're going to kill her."
"As I did to Aelin, I will challenge her to a duel." Aedion butts in, "Well you were going to kill Chaol—actually, yeah, she did that just to piss you off—proceed." Sophie gives Aedion a you're dead to me look. "It is not fair, I have no weapons and I'm in a dress." She says as soon as the Queen let go of her neck. She changed back into a dress when they got here because it would seem improper to be in leathers.
"Not my problem." Sophie sighs and in a snap her hair is braided back and she's in leathers with daggers all over. She even made a band over her brow to make her look like Asterin, she needed to make this a fair fight. Apparently it worked, Sophie then struck, taking the witch off guard. It only worked for so long though, the witch was pissed that she had gotten so many blows over her.
"Who. Are. You?" I think of this for a while, she sees this and strikes. "I'm. The. Moonlark." Manon takes the blade away from her, but she conjures another and the witch keeps doing this until Sophie has no more blades. "Finally done?" She smirks, "You're going to have to yield like your thirteen before I ever do that." It hurt to say that, but it needed to be done, the witch went pale and silent.
"I'm sorry." Flori, where are you? She waits for the response, I'm sorry Sophie, I'm close though. Well, I'm dead meat. "I was going to spare you, but not anymore." Sophie looked back to Dorian, Lysandra, and Aedion, they all backed up and had painful expressions on their faces. The Queen threw her sword aside and her nails shot out again.
Sophie looked at the nails, studied them hard, and her own shot out. "Holy shit! It worked." Manon looks at her in awe, "But you blood runs red...h—," the door crashes open. "Sophie! I have the book!" She makes the nails disappear as she rushes to the gnome.
・・・
Manon Crochan-Blackbeak didn't know what to think, first this girl is deposited here to Dorian by Aelin's dogs waking Dorian and her up. Then she makes the empty threat to drink her blood, then a voice that belongs to no one in the room talks in her head, then the girl claims to have magic, and knowing the girl can fight her way out of it, challenges her to a duel.
Then she magically changes her clothes and weapons appear in her tiny hands, but that only makes it worse because now she looked like Asterin. Then she thinks she can live after she had the nerve to bring up the thirteen's yielding, but then apologizes. Still Manon is pissed, her nails shoot out and surprisingly so does the girls
"But you blood runs red...h—," then the main door bangs open. "Sophie! I have the book!" A weird creature shouts to the girl—Sophie, she retracts her nails and makes a dash for it. "THERE'S NO SPACE, WE NEED TO JUMP, FLORI." The girl grabs the things hand and they make a run to the top of the castle. "Well, shouldn't we follow them?" I keep my cool and tell my so-called friends.
We rush up the stairs behind them, but get there too late. "It was nice meeting you people, but I have to leave now. Bye." She makes a mock salute and jumps off the ledge with her friend. "NO!" Dorian shouts coming up next to her, "Abraxos, get them." But he was too late, there was thunder and lightning, then they were gone.
・・・
Sophie Foster expected to be transported home, but she was wrong. Sat upon an icy hill looking up at the stars, the book shook itself out of Flori's tiny arms and into the sky. With a burst of light the book came back down into Sophie's hands flipped to the map page. At the top of the page under the map of the continent was in bold words Prythian.
"Honestly, what is it with transporting to new places every time?"
They once again jumped off the cliff, and again they landed someplace that was not their home. They landed in a ruined land that probably was bombed long ago and never fully recovered. The book unsurprisingly flew up, came back down and had Norta written at the top. Unlike Prythian, she had read about Norta. The land of Silver and Reds, power and no power.
"Yeah, I'm not surprised anymore, let's get out of here before they find us. Let's also hope we get sent home this time."
With the last bit of energy, Sophie grabs Flori's arm and sprints as fast as she can. This time, thank gods, this time they teleported straight into Everglen where everyone ws meeting. Everyone's gazes went to her, "You wouldn't believe me if I told you straight up." then, she collapsed.
