"This is my life now. I have climbed this hill and now I will die upon it."
"Shut up, we've only been hiking for twenty minutes." James laughed at Sirius dramatic demeanor and Remus over it attitude. The boys decided that for the summer before their seventh and final year they would go hiking. With help from Remus and his knowledge of the muggle world they had gotten everything ready the day before. James mother had made all of the boys promise that they would call her as much as they could. James kissed her on both cheeks and promised before the boys got in a old mustang that Sirius had insisted on fixing up. They had driven to the bottom of a small area that lead up to a section of hiking trails in the woods.
Now they were hiking, and even though they haven't been doing it long James and Sirius were already being the most dramatic that they could be. Remus was sick of it. Peter was rather quite in the back and snacking on granola bars the entire time.
After thirty more minutes of hiking, complaining, sarcastic comments, and repeating the cycle they had somehow gotten on the topic of the Yule Ball the year before. Remus had tried to get a fake date so that he could make his ex jealous, and it ended in the night of Sirius crying on the dorm floor when Remus got drunk and hooked up with his ex instead.
"I'm personally offended that you didn't get me to be your fake date." Sirius had said. Remus then very sarcastically reminded him the emotional breakdown following Remus being with someone else. In retaliation Sirius scoffed, slowed down and started walking beside James. Grabbing his hand Sirius said
"Fine, if you want to bring up exes were over then James is my new future husband." James laughed and said playing along
"Okay darling when's the wedding date."
"James! Stop trying to steal my boyfriend."
"Well then treat him right" Sirius triumphantly stuck his tongue out at Remus only getting a roll of the eyes from the werewolf. Peter was still silent, but it didn't really bother anyone. He tended to keep to himself anyway. In truth Remus was getting tired too. They had been walking for almost an hour with no breaks, so when he saw a small clearing up ahead he gladly made the announcement
"Okay were going to stop up there for a while and eat lunch." All three of the rest of the guys groaned in satisfaction.
"Finally moony, you'll stop leading us to our death site. You have been ever so kind to feed us before you plan to murder us for your werewolf sacrifices." A small laugh had come from the boy without meaning too, leaving Sirius happy with himself. They had stopped all dropping their personal bags down on the uneven dirt beneath people them. Remus pulled open his rucksack and rummaged through several different supplies. Pulling out a wrap that Euphemia had made for all of them before they left. He unwrapped it as he heard the other three boys playing a word associating game and laughing so loud it would scare away any living being with common sense. All he heard was
"Merlins white ass!" Before Moony decided it was time to zone out. Remus never had much time to enjoy the outdoors. Sure Hogwarts was surrounded by hundreds of acres of forest, but Remus would rather not enter those woods unless he had too. He never really had a chance to stroll the grounds unless he was running from one of the many Hogwarts professors during one of the many pranks him and his friends have pulled. So instead of dwelling on the Hogwarts grounds that he had only one more full year to love, Remus focused on what was in front of him. Taking a deep breath in, and letting it out five seconds after just enjoying the peaceful moment.
He looked over at the other boys, laughing and now chasing each other with something he couldn't see. He knew that even when they did graduate, they would always be there for each other. No matter what one of them might have done, or what they are.
