James couldn't believe that he was stuck in here. Each of him and his friends were separated with each other for detention. Each of them in turn had been caught by separate teachers. They had caused such a ruckus that they had gotten almost the entire staff of Hogwarts out of their beds. It was one of their biggest accomplishments yet, being chased by 6 or more teachers, and them running for their lives. The four had gotten separated somewhere along the way, this resulting each of them getting caught by one of the teachers. He had seen from behind a wall Sirius getting reprimanded by McGonagall herself. James found out later that Peter had tripped turning a corner landing right in the pathway of Flitwick, and Remus had been found by the History of Magic professor Cuthbert Binns. When he went to find Remus he was unaware that he had already gotten caught. Upon his arrival of the Potions classroom he had found no one there. Lurking behind the door confused, James stopped when he was greeted by the unwelcoming face of Slughorn. That's how he ended up waiting outside the Potions classroom right before his one free period. After what seemed like forever he heard the loud booming voice of Slughorn say,
"Okay that's enough for today." James stood up just as Slughorn and several other Slytherins exited the room. Slughorn approached him while James was aiming himself away from the wall. Maybe if he ran fast enough, and avoided the professor he wouldn't notice him, James thought to himself. It wasn't worth it though, he needed the good grades if he was going to make his parents happy. Just as Slughorn went to outline the rules of the detention that James was receiving there was a loud crash that came from inside the classroom. Cursing under his breath Slughorn jogged into the classroom James closely followed behind. When they entered they were greeted with a interesting sight. A Slytherin with whom he didn't know was on the floor coughing extremely hard, a small Hufflepuff girl was sobbing hysterically and having a violent panic attack, the most surprising of all was Regulus. He was kneeling in front of the girl talking in the most soothing voice. James caught snippets of what he was saying
"It's okay let's take this slowly, breathe in and breathe out. The worlds not ending, you're alive I want you to remember that." They stood there for what seemed like hours. The girl was a mess and in tears but Regulus was still there calming her down as best he could. She was calming down breathing more regularly when she stood up. Using his arm he helped lead the girl out and sat her down in the hallway. James heard his muffled voice letting her know,
"I'll be out there in a second, just hold on and breathe." Regulus came storming back in eyes full of rage and wand gripped tightly in his hand. The other Slytherin was already standing up, and the coughing had somewhat subsided.
"You ever do something like that again I swear to god you will have to learn how to function without your fingers, because I will break every single on of th-" before he could finish Slughorn interrupted belting out in a rough and angry voice.
"That is quite enough from you!" Looking at the other Slytherin 5th year he said
"You can go." Turning back to Regulus he said
"You can say here and serve detention with Mr.Potter." Spinning around in the most dramatic fashion his cape whirled when he went stomping out of the room. Regulus mumbled mostly to himself
"I have to go make sure she is alright." He left the room going right outside to the hallway where the girl was still sat. He came back in the room not even a minute later. James was standing in the same position when Regulus had left, shocked at the compassionate boy he had seen in front of him. After years of Sirius convincing him that his little brother was just like the rest of the heartless Slytherins. James wasn't so convinced now. Regulus angrily walked past him fuming. He sat himself down rather roughly in a desk. James shook off the shock and plopped himself down directly next to him, more quiet than he thought that he would have been. Regulus was still fuming when he looked over to him and asked in a questioning tone
"What?" His grey eyes looked more angry than the time Sirius tried hexing him in a hallway. This time there was nothing guarding those emotions. The more James looked the more he wanted to drown in his eyes. Something hit James then. He had spent years wondering what it was. The times he spent glancing over at the Slytherin table never knowing what it had meant. James couldn't ever stop thinking about the younger Black boy, James had convinced himself it was hate. He had always known that Sirius was blowing his brothers behaviour out of proportion. Its wasn't until now James knew why it had bothered him. All those lonely nights intentionally making himself think about about Lily just to push the boy next to him out of his mind. James never actually liked Lily. It was all a game, just so he wouldn't have to face the fact he was in love with his best friends brother. Oh my god he was in love with his best friends brother. This hit him like a explosive, not a bad one though. Everything that he was trying ignore for the longest time came bubbling out. The long afternoons he spent staring at him, the way he wished that he could kiss him right on his broom whenever Slytherin won, every glare that he sent Snape's way, and every smile that he sent James way. Everything came tumbling down around him. He spent the longest time trying his hardest to forget about him, but it never worked. The realization came forward in a sharp inhale of breath. This just made Regulus look even more confused that he had before. Without even trying to explain why James was having a crisis directly next to him, he just surged forward. James warm lips had landed on Regulus without a second thought. The amount of pressure he felt to make Regulus understand the amount of feelings crashing down all at once. He heard Regulus groan under his mouth kissing him back, harder, faster, and full of desperation. It felt as if James was the only life line, and without him Regulus was sure to run out of breath. Instead of reaching his head over across 2 desks James got up pulling Regulus and down onto his lap. After several minutes of having his lips locked with Regulus, James pulled away from him to catch his breath. Breathing heavily James pressed his forehead against Regulus and sighed outwards in contempt. He sat there with Regulus on his lap for sometime before they heard footsteps coming for the classroom. Regulus scrambled up quickly shifting over to then desk he was sitting in previously, trying to fix his uniform in a timely fashion. The footsteps got louder until coming to a full stop in front of the closed classroom door. The door creaked open before Slughorn walked in. The sounds of his footfalls were daunting as James looked down at his desk. Slughorn cleared his throat, handing Regulus and James a large section of parchment each.
"I want you both to write 12 inches about what you did. Explain your reasoning, and then leave it on my desk before you leave at the end of the hour." Raising his eyebrows he continued
"I have to leave, to go and take care of some...business."
"I won't be back by the end, but if you don't want to have detention for the rest of the month, I suggest that you get I done. The parchment is enchanted, so cheating isn't a option." With the end of his sentence, Slughorn left dramatically once again. With a large outtake of breath James leaned back in his chair. James looked at him for a minute before Regulus asked
"So you want to tell me what all that was about?" James scrunched up his nose and said
"Not really,"
"Ah so you regret it."
"No, I don't!"
"It's fine, I'll pretend to not care." James let out a frustrated breath and said in a loud voice
"That's not what I meant"
"I didn't even know how I felt about you till now. I just thought it was normal." They sat in silence for some time when Regulus spoke up
"It is normal." Regulus replied softly touching James arm. Instead of replying James got up from his desk, ignoring the parchment he was supposed to be writing on. James pulled Regulus off his chair into the middle of the aisle, kissing him again. The longer he kissed him the more he didn't want to stop. Regulus was intoxicating to him. He wanted to get drunk on the taste of his lips alone. The only thing keeping him tethered to reality was the smell of black coffee, old books, and subtle smoked cigarettes. They all smelled like the boy in front of him. This was everything he ever wanted. Every dream, every want, every day he spent staring at Sirius wondering what was missing, it was this. The reality was more glorious of any light on any broadway stage. He didn't want to stop, but then again he had to. He couldn't very well tell Regulus he has been in love with him for years if he couldn't breathe. When they finally stopped Regulus looked more startled for the first time. Instead of confessing his undying love James said
"Sirius is going to kill me." Regulus laughed and said
"Oh yeah he is." Pulling back slightly James asked
"What did you even do to get stuck in here." Regulus looked at him and with a look of triumph he said
"Edging a girl into a panic attack by continually calling her a mud blood and making fun of her dead parents earned him a good punch in the face."
"You didn't even use a hex?"
"Punching them scares the more." It was James turn to laugh and breathlessly he said
"I love you so much." Regulus stopped in his tracks
"What?"
"I love you?"
"That's not a good idea, but it's your own mistake." This time Regulus kissed him.
"Are you sure about this." Smiling James replied
"Without a doubt." Regulus glanced at the large clock adorning the wall.
"Shit!" He cursed rather loudly. It was almost the end of the hour and neither of them had anything written on their page. Leaning over his piece of parchment Regulus grabbed the quill of his desk, turned the parchment landscape view, and wrote in large letters. Looking over his shoulder James barked out a laugh. In large neat black letters the words
"He was being a dick, and I wanted to," were written across the page. Regulus wrote something of similar nature on James paper. Grabbing his hand Regulus pulled James out of the classroom laughing.
Ah, yes I know this is another Jegulus fic, but I love them to much. Jegulus week is over I'm pretty sure so this isn't for Jegulus week it's just a self indulged fix.
