"When are you coming out to LA?" He asked. "Uhh. Depends on how fast I can get the charges through." I answered. "Should not take more than 2 weeks. Not with all the evidence and my lawyer." Colby said into the phone that I had decided to put onto speaker.
"Okay. When y'all get here. Call me. I want to meet with you and the group." He said "Okay. I love you Kev." I answered him. "I love you too munchkin." He said before hanging up.
"Munchkin. I like it." Jake teased. I stuck my tongue out at Jake. He put his thumbs next to his ears and moved his fingers while sticking his tongue out and making a fart noise. "That's it. Your gonna get it." I joked. And started chasing him down the hall. I caught up to him and jumped on his back.
We stood there while he gave me a piggyback ride waiting for the guys to catch up. "Girls got speed." Sam joked. "No wonder she was soccer captain." Corey laughed. "You were?" Colby asked. "And top of her class with a 4.2 GPA." Jake added. "And president of photography club." Corey said in a mater of fact tone. "AND a part of the wrestling team." Jake said finishing what I had told them last night.
"How do you guys know all of that?" Sam asked the boys, they had this new kind of confidence from knowing more things than Sam and Colby. "We talked last night." I laughed a bit. We walked out to the car with me still on Jake's back. He put me down when we got to the car and I sat in the middle of Jake and Corey.
Jake, Corey and I were making fun of each other the whole ride to the mall. It felt like I had known these guys my entire life. We got out of the car and me and Jake were acting like children walking up to the mall but then I saw some people from my school and I got quiet. "You okay?" Colby asked when I just stopped and stared at the door.
"You know those texts I got?" I asked. Looking up at him. "Yeah?" He questioned. "They are here." I mumbled. He looked down at me then at a group of people. "It's okay. I've got you." He held his hand out to me. I took into mine and he interlocked our fingers. The guys looked at us confused but Colby gave them a stare so that they would not ask. We walked into the mall and the group just stared at me. "Slut." I heard one of them say.
I don't know what came over me but I let go of Colby's hand and ran over to them. The boys ran after me, "listen here. You and your friends are a bunch of pussies. You talk all this shit but the second someone calls you out you make middle school comments. Now you either shut your mouth or you will have to deal with me." I snapped. "What are you gonna do? You going to have your boyfriends come and beat me up?" He asked snarky.
I kicked his shin, so that he was hunched over. I grabbed the collar of his shirt and pulled him close to my face. "I don't need them to do shit for me." I spoke through my teeth. He lifted his hands in surrender and I pushed him against the wall before letting him go. "Now all of you best be staying away from me." I said looking at the group of people. "Crazy Bitch." The guy said once I started walking away. "Only to those who deserve it." I laughed a little while calling back to him.
I pulled Jake and Colby away and Sam and Corey followed. "You okay?" Colby asked after we turned the corner and stopped so that we were out of sight. "I'm good. I have a lot of adrenaline. But I'm good." I responded with a smile. "Why?" Sam asked. "Why what?" I looked away from Colby then to Sam. "Why did you do that?" He asked. "They were the people who I was telling you about." Colby said speaking for me.
"Him and his buddies wanted me to be their little prize. If you know what I mean. I said no, that I wasn't like that. They said of course I was like that my parents were no good and everyone who had bad parents is bound to be a slut. I still said no. So for a year I was beat up constantly, body shamed, and harassed." I confided into them. "I'm not going to pretend that I tried to stop it. Because I didn't, I was too scared. But I think that since I was finally able to get away from my parents. I can stand up to them." I explained what was going on in my head.
"I'm proud of you." Corey said but I was more worried about what Sam was thinking. "Sam?" I asked softly. He hummed a little in response to me calling his name. "Are you mad at me?" I asked even quieter and mousy. "No. I just don't understand why you had go through all of this." Once I heard no I wrapped him into a hug. "What was that for?" He asked after I let go. "Sam, can I show you something?" I asked pulling my phone out. He nodded.
"All you can look. But like this is honestly one of the 3 reasons why I trust you." I explained while scrolling through my photos. I showed them a man that looked like Sam. "Is that me and you?" He asked. "No. That is me and Kev." I corrected him. "You weren't kidding." Colby laughed a bit while looking up at Sam then back down at the photo. "Holy crap." Sam said with a small laugh.
