"My Stepfather on this side and mother on the other. They pinned me to the wall and choked me until I passed out." My voice cracked a little. "How old are you?" "23" I responded quickly. "Would you like to file a report? Since you are not a minor I can't do much." I paused as both of them looked at me. "Yes." I finally responded. "Okay. I'm going to go grab the deputy and he can set everything up." He said. Before he left he put a heart monitor on my finger and checked my blood pressure. He said that he would come back to look at my head in a little then closed the door behind him.
I got up and started pacing the room. "Hey? You okay?" He asked i shook my head. He stood up and without a word wrapped me in a hug. I quickly calmed down but we didn't let go of each other until the deputy walked through the door.
"Ms. Glen?"
"Yes sir."
"Okay, so we have attempted murder and assault charges." He said as I sat back on the bed.
"Yes."
"Can you explain what happened?""My mom and stepfather have always verbally abused me." I said pulling my phone out to show some text messages. "Are being cyber bullied too?" He asked as a text message came through. "Yeah. I'm not worried about them. My mom and I had gotten into a disagreement because I wanted to go to college. She didn't want me to go because I take care of the house while her and her husband are out on drug benders. My stepfather came in and saw us arguing and started yelling at me. He smacked my face and I fell. He told me to stand up and well I didn't. He... He lifted me by my throat then my mother joined. They were both yelling at me telling me that I was ungrateful and I was a disappointment." I said trying my hardest not to cry.
Moments passed before I spoke again watching the deputy write in his little note pad. "Aren't parents supposed to care about you and support you?" I asked breaking down. Colby rushed to my side and hugged me. "They are. And when they fail at that, the police and justice system is meant to take their spot. You have any other marks from them?" He asked. I nodded. "But I doubt you are able to see them because of how dirty I am." My tears had cleaned streaks down my cheeks and down my neck. Even though I was bathing myself in a small lake I was disgusting. "I'll let the doctor know that you need to be examined then you need to shower so that we can take pictures." He said sympathy coating his voice. "Okay thank you." I said choking on my voice. "Of course." He tipped his hat to Colby who was still holding me. Then walked out the room.
"I'll be right back." Colby let go and walked out of the room. But he stayed at the door.
"Dude, I'm not even kidding. I think so!"
"Genuinely. I trust her. I don't trust easy you know that!" Colby was on the phone with someone.
"The doctor is coming back. I'll talk with you about this later." He walked back through the door seconds later and I just watched him sit. "Your eyes." I said softly."Okay Ms. Glen, let's have a look at that head of yours." The doctor made me jump. He moved my hair out of the way and took an alcohol wipe and some gauze. "It's a small cut. It's already stopped bleeding. You will be okay. You don't have a concussion. Now if you would follow me to a room for you to shower. He can come too." The doctor said opening the door and leading us to a room on the other side of the building.
"We have towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap and rags. All ready for you." He said pointing to the pile on the sink in the small bathroom of the hospital room. I nodded and thanked him. He left and Colby sat in the chair next to hospital bed that took up 75% of the room. I showered for about and hour before wrapping the towel around my body and drying my hair. I brushed my teeth at least 10 times. I hate being dirty. I looked in the mirror to try and see what Colby was so fascinated about in my eyes. I grabbed my dirty clothes. And put them on.
"Here." Colby said handing me a sweatshirt and a pair of basketball shorts. "Oh. Okay. Thank you" I took them and went back into the bathroom and changed again. I walked out in the hoodie that went down to my knees and the shorts that I had rolled up 4 times at the waist in order for them to fit. "I never realized how small I was" I joked as Colby stared at me. "How tall are you?" He asked chuckling a little. "5'1." Responded. "Shortie" he teased. "Giant." I teased back. He laughed and we called the deputy in. I lowered the waist band and showed a dark scar from when was hit with a belt. I had shown some other scars that they have left on my body. He took pictures of my face because of the hand prints that were on it.
"Are you staying in town?" "Uh..." "yeah. We will be here for a couple of weeks." Colby spoke for me. "Okay. So we can get you a restraining order and you will have to appear in court a couple of times to get the charges you want held against them." He said as I sat next to Colby on the bed. "Okay I can do that. I don't have money for a lawyer though." "Yes you do." Colby said before the deputy could speak. "No. I can't make you pay for one." "I have a lawyer and we have actually become friends. I'll get him to help." Colby said obviously not taking no for an answer. "Thank you"
