In Depths of Winter

The winter snow did fall ever so steadily,
She trudged as Jack Frost nipped her cheek readily,
She shivered and stumbled in the dark of the night,
Darkness held shadows which gave her a fright,
She had come so far. She was so tired and worn,
Collapsing into the snow ever so forlorn,

Tears fill her eyes as her heart does slow,
Desperation inside she isn't ready to go,
A street light shines upon her face,
She is praying God's Angels lend her grace,

There suddenly came a shuffle a crunch upon the ground,
But looking above no one is found,
A voice calls her name so quietly,
And he knelt by her side almost silently,
He held her frozen in his arms,
Promising to protect her from all harm,

Minutes go by like hours,
In the stranger's arms as she cowers,
She is longing now to give up the ghost,
How ever this seems what the boy fears most,
She sees him strive in desperation,
Though for his care there is no explanation,
He whispers to her you have to cope,
But in his arms she is giving up hope,
The end of it all was in their sights,
Glowing a head is a bright warm light,
He gave them her name and away she flew,
Him vanishing in the darkness his name she never knew,
Some say he was an angel and others a ghost,
Did he exist at all? Was he a heavenly host?
On some cold winter nights by the light of the post,
You can see him there waiting for her her loyal ghost.
