I sit in the back seat of the car clinging onto the side tightly as Asami drives recklessly down the road. My heart slams against my chest as adrenaline pumps around my body at a rapid pace. I don't understand who would want to kidnap Wu. I mean, I understand he hasn't got the biggest fan club, but I don't get why someone would kidnap him over it. He hasn't even got control of his nation at the moment.
Asami slams on the breaks and my head turns to see Korra running towards us. She jumps into the back next to me and Asami slams on the accelerator causing the car to shoot ahead. I look ahead, keeping a strong grip on the car as we chase after the van with Wu. I had grown since the last time I was victim to Asami's frantic driving, but I was still not big enough to stop my body from being launched around the back seat mercilessly.
"We're losing them!" Korra cries from behind me and I can hear her frustration in her voice clearly. I hold onto the small black box in my hand tightly as I continue to get flung around the back seats. I really hate that I still have this on me, but I haven't had a chance to put it back in my hotel room, and thanks to Mako dragging me to meet with them all, it's had to join us for this adventure that no one wanted.
"Hang a right at the next block. We can cut them off on seventh." Mako says however, as Asami approaches the junction, she continues barrelling ahead, making no attempt at slowing down. "You missed the turn! Where are you going?" Mako yells as he turns to glare at Asami.
"I know these streets better than you. I built some of them." Asami explains as she drives up a small ramp, bringing us to a new road. I don't recognise where we are at all, but I trust that Asami knows what she's doing. Korra leans over the edge of the car and after a second she stands. I shuffle across the back seat slightly and that's when I see the van that we are chasing. I guess Asami was right when she said she knew these roads better than Mako, not that I really doubted her.
"What are you doing? Sit down!" Mako yells as he snaps his head towards the Avatar. But she doesn't listen. Instead, she air bends her way out of the car, landing on top of the van on the road below.
"Can we get down to help her?" I ask as I lean my head forward. Asami nods.
"There's a junction up ahead." She says. I sit back again as the wind blows against me causing my hair to whip my face from time to time. I groan in frustration at it and attempt to tuck the loose strands behind my ears to keep it out of the way, but the wind only seems to release the strands, allowing them to carry on whipping me. If only Bolin was here. He's so good at doing my hair so that I can still have it down whilst also having the annoying bits pinned back tightly.
Asami takes the turn at the junction, and as she said, we are brought to the road Korra had jumped down onto. Asami slams on the breaks as we reach the van and we all jump out as Korra comes into view. She has a tight grip on a man and holds him up by his collar as she turns to see us approaching.
"Wu's not here. This guy was the only one on the truck." Korra say, and in an instant Mako is tearing him out of her hands so that he can slam the driver against his van. My eyes widen at Mako's sudden aggression, but I remain silent. He is Wu's body guard, it's his job to make sure that the prince is safe, and so his aggression is justified... I think.
"Where's the prince?" Mako demands as he slams the man's back against the van again causing him to groan in pain.
"Halfway to Kuvira by now." The man grunts as his face scrunches up from the pain Mako's causing. I furrow my brows slightly as I stare at the man. Why would Kuvira want Wu? Mako slams him against the van once again and I see a sadistic grin appear on the man's face. "All hail the Great Uniter." He says.
"They must have moved Wu to a different vehicle when we lost sight of them." Asami says.
"Okay, but what do we do now? I can try to locate his heat signature, but that's going to take too much time. He'll be out of Republic City before I find him." I suggest weakly. I don't like using my heatbending, especially after what happened three years ago however, over the years I had grown comfortable using it from time to time. I am definitely not as confident in it as I once was, but I knew it was going to take me a long while before I returned to that. And that's even if I do return to the confident heatbender that I once was.
