Katsuki Bakugo stares at the ceiling of his room, hands behind his head as he tries to escape the nightmarish image of his friend's dead body on the ground. Well, he hasn't treated Deku like a friend for the last several years, but there's no one else his age who's death would hurt him like this.
Bakugo sighs; he looks over at his clock, and it's already morning. He didn't sleep a wink, and now he's got to go to school. He climbs out of his bed and gets dressed, completely unaware of the emotional turmoil he's about to go through after he leaves his house. Once he's in his uniform—with a tie on, even, which shows how out of it he is—he skips breakfast and leaves before his parents have time to stop him.
He's trudging towards his school, trying not to think about stupid Deku's blood on the pavement, when someone gets his attention.
"Hey, Kacchan!"
He whirls around his eyes wide in shock and fear. "WHAT THE FUCK?!"
"Oh, right! I'm not dead," Izuku says, as if that's all the time Bakugo needs to accept this situation. "Anyway, I got a quirk—"
"The hell are you talking about? Holy shit, maybe I do need a therapist, I'm fucking seeing things!" Bakugo squeezes his eyes shut, trying to banish the weird hallucination, only to open them and find Deku still standing there, his head tilted curiously to the side.
"What are you doing, Kacchan? Are you okay?"
"No, I'm NOT FUCKING OKAY!" Bakugo snaps. He reaches forward tentatively, flinching back when his hand comes into contact with Izuku's shirt. He then abruptly grabs Izuku by the front of his uniform, lifting him up slightly with his other hand cocked back threateningly, sparks flying from his palm.
"Alright, tell me what the fuck is going on, right fucking now," he snarls. Izuku just laughs, which is fucking wrong.
"Yeah, okay. Just put me down, okay?" he says.
Bakugo reluctantly puts him back on the ground, watching his every movement as though he's afraid Izuku will disappear at any moment. Actually scratch that, it's because he is afraid that Izuku will disappear at any moment. "Talk," he says.
"Well, my quirk is one that will only activate if I die a noble death; it's called Isekai, and it lets me reincarnate as more powerful than I was. Technically that's all my actual quirk does, but when I got reincarnated, it gave me an extra quirk so I don't die as easily next time," Izuku explains.
Bakugo runs the words through his head several times, trying to make sense of them. Izuku's quirk... reincarnated him, and also gave him another quirk? Isn't that a bit overpowered? Bakugo doesn't know jack shit. I'm way more powerful than just that.
"So, what quirk did... your quirk... give you?" Bakugo asks skeptically.
"I'm not sure what to call it yet, but it turned my life into an RPG!" Izuku tells him excitedly. "I have an inventory, status window, minimap, and even a help bar for when I'm confused!"
"That's pretty fucking sick," Bakugo acknowledges. He'd make fun of it in any other situation, but if Izuku suddenly disappears again, he wants his last interaction to be positive this time. "What does it do?"
Izuku's eyes light up in shock and joy as Bakugo doesn't just shut him down. "Right now I only have two abilities, but they're pretty powerful! And I wasn't counting my inventory, which technically should count as an ability too. I can store up to 3600 pounds!" (1600 kg).
Bakugo blinks, sure that he just heard something wrong. They start walking to school; if they're gonna go, Bakugo doesn't want to be late, and he can't wait to see everyone's faces when Deku shows up. "What? Show me!" he says.
