Hawks

Keigo has never understood why the people over him in the Hero Commission have to be called his handlers. They're just a bunch of assholes that make sure he's putting up the perfect laid-back hero act for the new era, and he knows that they hope he'll replace All Might someday.

As if.

He actually likes the attitude that they constructed for his hero persona as Hawks. He enjoys being that person, and he sometimes likes to keep some aspects of that when he's expected to drop the act. When he's away from the public eye, he's supposed to be docile and obedient instead of snarky and confident. When he keeps up some of the sass, they like to hurt him to remind him of his place.

It worked when he was a kid. However much he sincerely hates them, the Hero Commission did a damn good job in training him. Whether it be a fight, a rescue mission, subterfuge, or anything else, Hawks is always the hero for the job. He's good at what he does, and he does a lot of things. The thing is, he's a lot better than the Commission thinks he is.

They trained him to act, to control his body language perfectly, giving him a psychopathic ability to lie as easily as he breathes, but apparently they can't see through their own training. He's Hawks, the hero that flew up the hero rankings just as fast as he soars through the sky. His entire image is built off of being unrestrained, free. He's done being the commission's puppet, but he can't cut himself off all at once. His agency will be at risk otherwise, so he's slowly cutting at the tether they think they have on him.

Until he's done, though, he still has to do what they tell him to. That means he can't just ignore the order to track down the two new vigilantes. On paper, it says to incarcerate them, but Hawks knows that they want to add the two—who are apparently still children—to the same training program Keigo himself went through. (Read: brainwashing program)

He half-heartedly scans the report, perking up at the strange inconsistencies recorded about their quirks. Some of the criminals said they had healing quirks, some said strength and speed enhancement, and some even said they could manipulate time. One guy swore he saw one of them pull a metal bat from thin air which he proceeded to beat them with. Others insisted that it was some sort of invulnerability quirk, because no matter what attacks they managed to land, the two never got injured.

Okay, even if it is an assignment from the Hero Commission, maybe Hawks won't hate this one too much.

Actually excited for once, Hawks decides he might as well start now. He probably won't find the two on his first day searching—that would be way too convenient—but the sooner he gets started, the sooner he'll get done.

What Hawks doesn't know is that I'm apparently omnipotent, and everything that has to do with me is hella convenient. I'm kind of impatient, so yes, he'll end up meeting them tonight. That's how I roll.

Again, since I'm impatient, I'll skip over the part where he searches for a while, then gets some fried chicken, then does a bunch of fan service, then searches some more. We'll start where he finds Izuku and Bakugo vigilante-ing.

Just as Hawks gets done giving a couple of his fans an autograph and a selfy with him, one of his feathers alerts him to a cry of pain behind a nearby building. He flashes a grin at the two girls and takes off, ready to swoop in and save the day, but the sounds of combat have already started. By the time he arrives, the sounds have already stopped, and some poor guy with an insectoid mutant quirk is shakily thanking two kids in homemade costumes.

Wow, that was easy, he thinks. Yeah, you're welcome for that, Hawks.

"Yo, you're the new vigilantes, right?" he says, gently alighting on the road in front of them.

"Fuck off," one of them growled immediately, while the other perks up at the sight of him.

"OH-MY-GOD-ITS-HAWKS!" he gasps, plucking a notebook from thin air. Hawks' eyes widen in shock; he'd disregarded the report of summoning things from nothing, but apparently it's very legitimate.

"Hey, will you please sign my notebook?" the boy asks, making Hawks grin and roll his eyes.

"Sure thing kid, but you know I'm a hero, right? I'm supposed to bring you in." He takes the notebook and signs it, handing it back to the ecstatic youngster. He gives a smile to the person they'd saved, using a feather to lead him away and out of earshot.

"Even with the powerups, Hawks will be hard to outrun," the other one, which Hawks had named Loud Kid, says in a warning voice. Notebook Kid sighs.

"I know," he says, pursing his lips. "I'm banking on the fact that Hawks hates the Commission."

Hawks blinks, his mind blanking for a moment in panic. "What?" he says.

"Don't look so scared, no one else knows," Loud Kid grumbles. "Can't tell you how we know without giving away quirk information, though, so don't even ask."

"Actually, I just got a prompt," Notebook Kid says, sounding worried. "Life Hack wants me to add him."

Life Hack is the name they gave me, by the way. I quite like it to be honest.

"You quirk wants you to add Hawks, the number three ranked pro hero. Are you serious?" Loud Kid groans. Notebook Kid shrugs.

"Listen, it's worked out so far, hasn't it? I think we should just trust her."

"Hold up, wait a minute, I have questions," Hawks says, holding his hands out in front of him. "What did you just say? You called your quirk a 'she', and 'she' wants you to 'add' me? What?"

"You'll always have more questions than answers when it comes to us," Notebook says cryptically.

"That's his dramatic way of saying we don't know shit, so we can't answer your questions," Loud Kid says with a smirk.

Hawks sighs, resting his head in his hands. "Listen. The Hero Commission wants me to capture you guys and make you a part of the same kind of training shit they put me through—they do this with all of the kids with extraordinary quirks that they can get their hands on. I don't want to do that to you, but if you keep doing shit like this illegally, I'll have to. It's better than letting them put Endeavor on your case, at least."

"Naw, we're good," Loud Kid says dismissively, waving a hand in a shooing motion. Hawks blinks, tilting his head in confusion. Were they not worried about their situation at all?

"You see, the thing is... my quirk is very powerful. Like, for sure powerful enough to handle whatever the Hero Commission can throw at us. We've already encountered two major criminal organizations, and we're kinda friends with both of them now. Besides, we're applying for U.A. this year anyway, so it won't be illegal for too long. Anyway, point is, we can help you break free of the Hero Commission. Do you want to work with us?"

Hawks starts to laugh but he eventually nods. There's a good chance nothing will come of this, in his opinion, but even if it all goes wrong, it sounds like it'll be fun. "I'm in. What do I do?"

"You press accept," Notebook Kid says with a grin. "And you go through the tutorial."

The Wing Hero flinches as the world glitches around him.
