"you broke off our deal." akaashi said as he marched towards the general with his fist tightly clenched.
"you said you wouldn't bother her!" akaashi yelled so loud.
"pathetic.. you're still pathetic after all these years." the scarred man told akaashi.
"did you really think that princess would love you?" ven mouthed as he laughed vigorously. "..you're nothing but a mere palace guard, my dear nephew."
"why don't i talk some sense into you.. do you think that princess would run away with you and abandon her own empire?" ven followed as akaashi's face showed clear frustration.
"your deal? what was your deal again? ah.. i wage war against the emperor and you flee with your princess? is that it, keiji?" ven said as he walked closer to akaashi.
"your demands are for a simple man. that soon to be empress is not a simple woman."
"i want this empire to bow down to me."
"and for that to happen. we must obliterate those sitting on the throne." ven said as he placed his hands over akaashi's shoulder. "join me."
"i would never harm the princess." akaashi faltered as he grew pale.
"would you bear to see the love of your life.. spend the rest of their days with somebody else?"
"the princess was never yours to begin with." ven whispered.
"and if you can't have her.. then shouldn't she just.. die?"
"general ven. i stand by the land of the sun.. my oath to protect the princess with my life is what i will stand by.." akaashi said, looking away.
"you've faltered, nephew." ven laughed.
"but thanks to you. your information. your connections. everything you sent me. got us to where this war is at now."
"we killed the emperor because of you. hah.. you bought us a lot of time i can say."
"you're a traitor, just like me, keiji." ven said as he gave akaashi a smile.
akaashi glared at him in anger, ready to charge him at any moment. but he couldn't. he couldn't deny any of his accusations.
"it's because we had a deal!" akaashi yelled, a few tears escaping his eyes. he shaked as he listened to his uncle talk about conquering the empire.
"..all i need you to do.. is join me."
"you will be the perfect bait."

his words just spiraled through my head as my thoughts started to blur.. he was right..
i am a traitor.
for wanting to have her to myself, i forgot that her duties.. required sacrifices.
ven's phrase of how if i cant have her.. then nobody should rang in my mind like a looping memory.
everything was blurry, yet i mouthed something i've never expected to say.
"i'll help you take over the throne.." i said as i've already gotten this far.
ven smiled— ecstatic to feel such power.
"but with one condition." i said as i placed down my sword.
"tell my men out the gate.. that i died in her chambers.. trying to fight you off for her sake.."
"let her remember me in a good way.." i said clenching my fist as i left a note stuck in the middle of the book we've always read together.
"that would be one easy condition." ven mouthed, "it will be followed accordingly." he said once more as he marched out the main chamber,
leaving me left behind, with my broken oath to the princess of the empire.
