I find myself restlessly pacing outside the cafeteria, vigilantly watching for Tobias to appear. I haven't seen him since he left me wallowing in misery outside the fear landscape room nearly three hours ago. I've searched everywhere I knew to look ... the apartment, his office, the training room, the chasm, the bar. I even made a quick trip to the Navy Pier to see if he left the compound. I couldn't find him anywhere. I even considered searching for Oliver to see if maybe Tobias followed him but I didn't want to encourage his weird fixation.
While I was trying to hunt down Tobias, Shauna, James, and Will went over the final simulation data and compiled the ranking list for tonight's Choosing Ceremony and finished assigning the initiates their apartments. Of course, they witnessed Oliver's simulation and Tobias' reaction, so the three of them stepped up without having to be asked so there would be no delay in the process. I don't know what we would do without them.
I'm still very confused about everything that transpired in the fear landscape room. I asked Christina to explain Oliver's simulation once I pulled myself together but she couldn't tell me much since she'd never actually watched it. She'd only heard about it secondhand from Brody and Ana, but apparently his sim is quite explicit, which pisses me off and freaks me out. I don't blame Tobias for his reaction. I just wish he hadn't shut me out. We work much better as a team. It hurt when he wouldn't even look at me, but I tried to put myself in his shoes. If that had been the bitch having simulation sex with my husband, and I had to witness it, I would have done the same thing, except I doubt anyone could have been able to hold me back from killing her. I just want to make sure that this doesn't damage our marriage.
"Hey, Tris," Zeke calls out, making me jump. I'm concentrating so hard on searching the crowd for Tobias' face I didn't even see him approach.
"Hi, Zeke," I murmur, not taking my eyes off the crowd.
"Hey," he says, garnering my attention and I turn to look at him. I'm surprised by his concerned look. Just seconds ago he sounded so jovial. "What's going on?"
"Have you talked to Four since lunch?" I ask.
"I called him a couple times but he never picked up," he says. "Why?"
"I'm really surprised you haven't heard," I mutter and then I tell him what I can about what happened in Oliver's simulation this afternoon and Tobias' reaction.
"That explains why he never got back to me," he says, his brows furrowed.
"What did you need to tell him?" I ask.
"We had a sighting of Shauna's dad this afternoon," he says. "He was dressed in Dauntless colors and tried coming in the garage with the changing guard but something scared him off?"
"Any idea what?"
"No," he says shaking his head. "I was going to have Four take a look at the video and see if he saw something we overlooked."
"Can you send the video to me?" I ask. "Once I finally find him, I'll be sure to show it to him."
"Sure," he says as he fishes his phone out of his pocket. "How long have you been looking for him?"
"I gave him an hour since he told me he needed some time, and then I went looking for him. I've searched everywhere. There's been no sign of him."
"Did you try the chasm?" I nod. He rattles off several other places I already checked and then he asks, "What about the net room? Did you try there?"
No, I never thought about that," I say but immediately know it's a great idea. It's isolated and if Tobias needed time alone, he'd have it there. "Thanks. That might just be where he's at." I turn to go but Zeke gently grabs my arm, stopping me in my tracks.
