Chapter 11

Five weeks passed in the castle of Worthington, my duties were still needed around the country in fact today was going to be rather busy so James told me this morning before he started with asking me to make my first choice of the day. "The time has come to set Worthington's drinking limit. As you may know your father set a limit on how much alcohol the citizens of Worthington could drink per day, the more richer people of the country say that the rule doesn't go far enough as still people are making fools of themselves and throwing up in the streets. The more common citizens say that the rule is unfair and that it is cutting into there freedom. You have three choices, take away the drinking limit which would make most people in Worthington happy. Raise the drinking limit upsetting most people. Or three you could keep it the same which would be neutral amongst the people". "Well if people are abusing the alcohol and being fools I'll have to keep it the same. I cannot raise it that would be evil" I said looking like I was thinking hard. "You have two audiences in the throne room today and then a wealthy citizen in Rosy Lake has asked to see you. Sadly you'll have to travel to her house which she tells us will make sense when you arrive" James explained to me. "She better not be a time waster or I will have her arrested" I told James as I walked off to the throne room.
As I walked in and sat on my throne people cheered for me. Today Alisha and Mimi came to me and stood in front of the throne. "Today Alisha is here to ask for your promise to be fulfilled, Mimi is here to stand against her" Daniel told me. "Your majesty we had a deal made before you were King and that was that if myself and my people risked there lives to put you on the throne, that you would reopen our boarding school. It was the best school in the country and made even the dumbest citizens into somewhat average intellectual people. All I ask of you is to simply pay one hundred thousand of your cash to give the building a bit of spruce up and reopen the building so everyone can come and learn" Alisha told me nicely. "Your majesty I completely agree with Alisha. We should reopen the boarding school but why spend money on making it look nice? In fact why allow people to learn for free? If this school is the best in the country then surely we deserve to make money from it. I say we reopen the boarding school and charge people a rather large price to learn". "But then only the rich will be able to learn?" Alisha asked. "Why give knowledge away to those who simply can't afford it and won't be anything in life anyway?" Mimi asked. "Alisha's efforts help out me on the throne but Mimi makes an excellent point why should we give knowledge away for free? Instead I'm making my own choice, I will give Alisha the full amount of money to refurbish the school but we will charge people a small fee to use it" I told them both. "Very well your majesty I will get to the paperwork at once. It should be done by the end of the month" Mimi told me. Alisha seemed only half happy with the outcome.
The audience left and the next load came in this time Rochelle and Mimi came forward. "Mimi is here to offer a financial helping proposal. Rochelle is here to stand against her" Daniel told me. "Your majesty I have got some amazing news that the rather large lake in Rosy Lake has got diamonds under it. Now although we could get people to hold there breath and swim to the bottom and dig and come back up for air, I feel it would be much easier if we drain the lake and then dig under it. Of course it would make Rosy Lake a rather ugly place after doing so and of course I wouldn't like to see the site myself but for the sake of this kingdom I would happily allow it" Mimi told me. "That's just wrong, that lake is literally the heart of Rosy Lake. That lake is why my state has it's name, it's the finest and biggest lake in the country. You even got married on that lake surely you don't want to drain it?" Rochelle asked. "Rochelle is correct the lake is to be left untouched!" I ordered. The rich people of Rosy Lake cheered and Rochelle was very pleased. "Very well I won't let anyone touch the lake" Mimi told me.
Shortly after I got myself onto a horse and traveled to Rosy Lake, in fact Rochelle accompanied me and told me she would come with me to see the person with me. She too thought it was strange that I had to see her rather than her come to me. The two of us got there early hours of the following morning and we decided to rest at Rochelle's house until the late morning and then head to the ladies house.
When we did arrive there she seemed ever so worried. "Oh your majesty! It's an pleasure to see you. I thought you wasn't coming but I'm glad your here now" she told me. "Why did I have to come?" I asked. "Some thieves stole a very important book from me and I really want it back. I'm willing to pay you half a million for that book!" She told me. "For a book? Ok then, do you know where the book is? Or who took it?" I asked nicely. "I know both, it's a man called Henry Arthur and he lives in a little town just outside of Rosy Lake. You know the village with all the wolf people". "Oh you mean Simons Creek?" Rochelle asked. "Yes that's the one". "Wait a minute. Wolf people?" I asked thinking back to the ones I fought in Mimi's house. "They are half human half wolf they have sharp claws and move slightly fast" The lady explained. " I get the picture we will be back with your book" I replied walking away with Rochelle. "I've fought those things only once before and they are very hard to beat". "It's daytime there shouldn't be many about, they mainly come out at night" Rochelle told me. "How do you know?". "I've studied them, they occasionally come into Rosy Lake and attack our citizens it's not often but it happens, so I thought it was best for the sake of my people to research them and tell my people about them" Rochelle explained. "Sounds like you care for your people" I told her. "I do, I mean I'm in charge of them".
The two of us walked to Simons Creek which Rochelle showed me the way too. We walked into a Forrest which made the place look a little darker than normal as the trees covered a lot of the sunlight. "Have you ever been to this village before Rochelle?". "Yes only during the day and I don't stay ever long though" she told me. "Do you always go with someone?". She giggled and replied "I can look after myself". "Still your only a lady". "I'm quite tough thank you".
The two of us reached the town, there was only about six wooden houses and about four shops. In the centre of the village was a stone statue of some man that I didn't know. "It's the King! Oh wow!" One man said as many other gathered. "Hello everyone I'm here to look for a man called Henry Arthur" I told them. Everyone mumbled and gasped, "he's not a nice man he lives on his own outside the village in a shed" a lady told me, she the pointed down the path to take to reach him. "Thank you villagers" I called taking Rochelle with me.
The two of us headed down the path and reached a open land where a shed was standing, a man was sitting in a rocking chair when he saw us coming. "Why if it isn't the King!" He called looking rather pleased to see me. "I've come for the book you stole" I called as we approached him. He laughed and replied "you can have the book, I've already gotten my use out of it!" He told me going inside and then throwing the book to me. I then ran and stabbed the man with my sword right through his chest and Rochelle gasped. "Why did you kill him". "I had a feeling he was up to something evil, let's be honest living out here on your own! Even the villagers said he wasn't a nice man. I've done God a favour and made the world a better place". "True I guess, he has committed crimes in the past. I'm sure God thanks you" she replied.
The two of us peacefully returned to the woman who cried as soon as she saw the book. She told me she would bag up the money to send to the kingdom on a horse and carriage.
The lady of course came through with her promise, four months pasted and it was three weeks before my one year anniversary as King. However I couldn't have any time off working. In fact I had four choices to make today, three of which where in the throne room. James approached me in my bedroom where I was writing down a few things. "I have a important message from Georgia she says the economy has fallen and the people will suffer if you don't do something about it. You have two choices one to bail out the economy for a million coins and save everyone's skins, or two let the economy fall and ruin some people's lives?" James told me. "Bail it out this will suffer our tax money otherwise if more people become homeless we will lose tax money. The homeless don't pay taxes. In the long run this will make me more money than loose it" I told him. "I will do the adjustments for you, your a very wise King. You are required in the throne room you have three audiences today. The people are waiting for you, in three separate groups, the guards are controlling them but I do suggest you get on with the choices or they will get restless" James told me. "I'll go in a moment I'm just finishing up here and I'll get to it" I told him.
About an hour later I headed to the throne room where once again I was cheered for as I entered. Jacob and Mimi came forward and Jacobs people stood in the background. "Jacob is here to ask for a favour and Mimi is here to stand against him" Daniels told me. "Your majesty as you know the darkness will come to Worthington now at any moment! My people will be the first to see it attack. Which is why I ask of you to build a desert outpost in Sandy Doom for half a million coins. It will allow my people to leave the town in time and it will ensure the survival of at least some of your loyal citizens. Sandy Doom is part of your kingdom now and it's important you treat us with respect like you would any other state" he explained. "A dessert outpost? Really Jacob? Your majesty do you not think this is a silly thing to do? Why would you build a outpost in a far distance land and make our guards and soldiers suffer from heat stroke and dry lips? I ask of you to reject this proposal" Mimi told me. "To be honest, the darkness poses a threat to us all and Jacob is right it could be here any day now! But it is your choice" Daniel told me. "To be honest with you a dessert outpost would be a expensive but possibly effective thing to do. When the darkness comes, you'll be the first to know about it meaning you will be the first to let us know when it's here. Therefore we can prepare for it's attack before it gets across the sea into Worthington. I will build your outpost not just for the safety of those in Sandy Doom but for those in the states closer to this kingdom!" I explained. Jacob and his people were very pleased. "Very well your majesty I will make the adjustments myself and I think it should be done in a couple of weeks" Mimi told me and she stood proud.
The audience cleared and the next audience was brought into the throne room, it was Roy and his people. "Roy has come to seek his promise and Mimi is here to offer a proposal" Daniel told me. "I've come here today to seek nothing less than what was promised to me and my people. Which was you giving back the farms and such back to my people so they could start rebuilding there lives rather than living on the streets starving. It wouldn't cost you a thing, me and my people put our lives at risk to put you on the throne, my wife even died putting you on that throne and we ask of so little from you" Roy told me firmly. "Your majesty this sounds like such a silly thing to ask for. Why are we giving property's away for free? We need to earn money for this very kingdom! However I have come up with an idea that should please you both. We could use the extra crops coming from Roy's town so I propose that we give the farms with the best soil back to those who are the best farmers in town. The ones that have not a good soil will be destroyed and we could build some entertainment buildings, such as fighting arenas and even some whipping posts for criminals! We could earn big from this! People will come from all over to get some much needed entertainment" Mimi told me happily. "As much as Mimi's idea sounds interesting I couldn't possibly disappoint Roy after his loss and he is right, he is asking very little from us. The farm lands will be given back to those that need them. Besides once they get back on there feet they will be paying taxes so this will earn me money in the long run" I told him. "Thank you I'm honoured to have you as King" Roy told me. "Very well I'll make sure they are given back to the homeless" Mimi told me.
I took a half an hour break after that and had a light snack of a bowl of broth. When I returned I found Harry and his people in the throne room along with Mimi by his side. "Harry is here to seek the promise you gave him and Mimi is here to stand against him" Daniel explained. "Your majesty I've come to seek the promise you gave me and Josh. He died before he was able to fight by your side but I am still here today serving you. I think we have both earned enough respect and loyalty by you for you to give us what we asked for. Let witches practise there good magic in our town, under the rules you gave me that they are not to use it outside my state or use it on your kingdom and of course use only good magic" Harry told me. "Your majesty are you hearing this? Witches are illegal and should be beheaded or burned at the stake! It is a sin against God himself to practise magic only the mighty Lord can use magic and he is the only person with it to use it! I suggest for the sake of God that you decline Harry's proposal" Mimi told me. "As much as I may not really understand or agree with witches they did once save my life, also Harry has done more than enough for my kingdom I owe it to him to keep my promise" I told everyone. Harry and his people were most pleased as Mimi shook her head.
It wasn't long before I awoke on my one year anniversary as King next to my husband, James pulled the curtains open and I looked up at him. "Happy anniversary my king! Today is a very busy day, you'll be sitting in Stone Henge for the morning getting your ever own self portrait painted by various artists in Worthington and around the world and you can take the ones you like. Your afternoon will consist of signing lots of autographs and giving speeches to some states" James explained. "Very well I'll eat and get ready then" I told him as I got up and strolled to the kitchen. The chefs made me some broth for breakfast with some breads. Like always a stylist did my hair as James laid out a lovely outfit for me. It was my usual king outfit but in white and gold, it looked a little more formal.
After putting it on myself and Jeff walked to the front door of the kingdom when Harry and Daniel bursted through it. "ITS HERE! THE DARKNESS IS HERE! SANDY DOOM HAS ALERTED US OF THE ATTACK!" Daniel yelled. "Well happy anniversary to you to! What do we do?" I asked. "We must prepare! We have very little time! I'll get the army we prepared out on the streets Jake you and Jeff sit tight until the attack, you'll need to help fight!". "We can't just sit here and do nothing until we need to fight" I told him. "Honestly you'd just get in the way just leave it to me" Daniel told me as he ran off with Harry.
Myself and Jeff paced around the balcony looking out ahead not seeing any immediate danger. We pushed the golden telescope onto the balcony to see if we could see anything further away. We saw nothing which in a way was a good thing.
It wasn't much longer before myself and Jeff were pulled into a meeting with Harry, James, Adam, my dad and Dan. We stood in the war room chatting. "It's here everyone the darkness is here! And I know some of you don't really understand what the darkness is or what it does but it's pure evil and it won't hesitate to kill you. Thanks to Jake over the last year we have kept a steady high flow of gold over the year which we have been using to build a huge army. It could have been a bit bigger perhaps, Jake could have tried to get a bit more in but what we got in the end was big enough to defend our country. The soldiers are out fighting as we speak!" Daniel explained. "One thing you should know before fighting the darkness is that you must keep a clear head and don't let it play mind games with you. I know that's easier said than done but it's just a little heads up" Harry told everyone. "The other mayors I assume will be out fighting as well as us but this was all I could bring in, in such short notice. Today we fight for our country!" Daniel said raising his sword. Everyone pulled out there swords and raised them to the sky and clanged them all together, to symbol a team.
The darkness came soon enough soon even in our state the darkness had spread. Black goo was all over the shops, the walls, the floor and people's homes. There was no plan on how to fight the darkness, no one really knew how to fight it. It was simply a matter of finding something and killing it and staying alive. I was in the streets of Worthington fighting some shadow people, when I noticed the darkness was already playing tricks on me. Ahead I saw Georgia standing on a wall by the river in Worthington. She stabbed herself and fell backwards into the water. As I rushed over I saw nothing in the water but black goo. The darkness was creating things that were not true, it wasn't to be underestimated. I continued fighting the weird shadow people, as I ran down the street I saw some people had the darkness inside them. There eyes were black and there skin was pale. They came at me, sadly I had to attack them they were beyond the point of helping. I killed each and everyone of them. Suddenly I got voices in my head, "You let your country down! Everyone is dying! Everyone will be gone! I will kill everyone you love starting with the mayors of the states like Adam and Rochelle! Then I'll go for your family your mum and dad and then I'll take the one person you truly love Jeffery!" It said and chuckled to itself. I covered my ears and tried to block it out. "I'm going to kill him slowly and painfully!". "SHUT UP!" I screamed. As I tried running down the street to try and get away from it. I passed a alleyway and saw something move down it, I then rushed down the alleyway to see if it was another shadow person or someone evil. I then saw something I wish I hadn't! It was the darkness in its real life form. It was a creepy alien looking thing, with about ten small eyes grouped together on its long face, it's teeth were sharp and it's tongue had a mouth of its own. It's hands were large with really sharp looking nails and a hunchback gave it a more older look. It wore a brown coat over it which dragged along the floor covering the rest of its figure which seemed slim-ish. "It's you!" I said in shock. "No one escapes the darkness" it said creepily. I swung my sword at him and it shoved me away scratching my left arm in the process making me bleed. The thing came at me and grabbed me by the neck slamming me against the alleyway wall, I kicked it in the stomach and it let go of me backing off. I swung my sword again cutting off some of its fingers in the process. The thing stretched and made me feel a bit dizzy and light headed from how loud it was. Glass actually smashed it was so loud.
I stumbled a little and lost my sight slightly, it whacked me across the face and stuck it's nails into my upper arms which in theory was like stabbing me with small knives. I screamed from the pain dropping my sword. It through me into the wall and then throwing me on the floor hard. I got my vision back after a few seconds and I grabbed my sword with my now painful arm and swung it at the creatures leg cutting into it. It screamed again but I quickly covered my ears to try and block some of it out. It somewhat helped I guess I didn't lose my vision this time. It fell to the floor and I stood up and stabbed it in the leg and then stabbed it in the stomach. Finally I stabbed it in the face killing it once and for all.
I sat down and lent against the wall looking at its body, knowing I'd done the worst of the fight. I knew the country was saved whatever was left out there would be killed by the army and the country would be darkness free! I sat there looking at it for a few minutes before I got up and dragged myself into the streets when Harry came running up to me, he had blood down his face and looked worried. "Jake come quick it's Daniel!" He told me as he ran off signalling me to follow him. As I did I saw James kneeling down to Daniel who was on the floor bleeding heavily. I ran over scared getting down to his level. "He got stabbed by a man with the darkness inside him" Harry said as I saw the blood from his stomach gushing from him. Tears came down my eyes and I looked into Daniels. "You did me proud Jake I knew you'd be the best king this country had ever had" he said slowly. "I could never have been that without you, you made me what I am" I told him. "Still it was all you that became a great leader. Your just twenty years old and already the most powerful person around. I couldn't have asked of better from you" he said with a smile as he closed his eyes. "No Daniel stay awake please!" I begged as I started to cry. "Please!" I cried as I put my head on his still warm chest.
The following week was Daniels funeral, we buried him in the Royal catacombs which a small stone shed looking building. As the door opened it lead you down some posh stone stairs into a very posh open spaced underground graveyard for The Royal Family Members and anyone that was close to the family and very important. Myself, my family and the mayors of each of the states stood around his grave sad. "Well I think it's fair to say that Daniel would have been proud of all of us from surviving the darkness" Harry told us. "What is next for us all? The darkness is dead we won?" I asked. "Well I'm going back to Rosy Lake and continuing to do my job, should you need me Jake just call for me" Rochelle told me as she then headed outside to go home. "I have guns to make for your army, Harry gave me the opportunity to serve for your army, I'm sure you and I will see each other quite a lot now" Adam told me as he then left. "I'll head back to my state and help out anyway I can. I will gladly serve you Jake" Alisha told me. "Me too it was a pleasure to fight by your side" Isabella told me. "Sandy Doom thanks you for everything you've done for us! You are truly the best King that's ever lived. I must return to my people but I shall return my King" Jacob told me. "I may have lost my wife but I can't have imagined a greater fight to have had. She was proud of you as am I. Should you ever want another large fight you know where to find me" Roy said happily. "I have to get back to my people many still need help! But I shall return my King" Georgia told me. "Well you and I will be working more closely, I figured I should take Daniels role and serve you and the army, since I knew his job the best. I look forward to helping you" Harry told me. "I couldn't have asked for a greater King and friend. I will be by your side literally everyday until the day I die"James said. "I will admit, you are the leader that your mother and I could never have been. With us leading the country we probably would have lost the fight against the darkness. We are proud of you" my dad said as him my mother and brother left. "But no one loves you like I do" Jeff told me as he gave me a kiss.
That night I felt happy knowing that Daniel could rest in peace. I was also glad that I had served my country well and the people were safe and sound at last. I stood in one of my royal hallways looking at my old prince outfit on a manakin when I saw a shadow behind me move quickly away. I turned around and saw nobody in sight. I decided to walk to my royal bedroom to get some sleep, however as I came into the room I saw something I something I wish I hadn't. It was Jeffery laying on the floor on his stomach with a puddle of blood around him. Someone had appeared to have stabbed him with something large such as sword straight through his back past his stomach. I screamed loud as I rushed down to him however he already had passed. Guards came rushing into the room with family members not far behind. I sat on the floor holding onto my husbands body. I could only think of one thing as I cried to myself. Who could have killed my husband?
