Both Jake and Sienna had presented their essay to the class, whilst Stiles watched the two happily, Sienna ensured her gaze never landed on the boy. She didn't want to seem off with him, but the lingering sense of disappointment didn't seem to shift. However, over the lesson her mind managed to drift from the thought, as she focused more on other things and less on the brunette boy.
The pair sat back down, both pleased with themselves as they'd gotten a round of applause from the class and a big congratulations from the teacher who seemed very happy with the work they'd completed together.
Talking amongst each-other about what they'd done well lasted a few minutes, until the conversation fell silent for some time. Jake stared at Sienna, who stared back with raised eyebrows in confusion. It was as if he'd debated on talking but had chosen not to for the few seconds that were passing by slower than either would like them to be. Awkwardness hung in the air as Siennas eyes glazed over the table beside her to try and avoid the feeling of uncomfortable silence creep up on her. However, the quiet voice of Jake broke the tension as he began to say something, " Hey, Sienna. You've, you've not got a date to the dance tomorrow right?"
Her lips parted but no words had left yet as she wasn't sure what to say back—" Erm, no I haven't. I'll probably just go solo and hang with my friends for the night". She anticipated his response, not sure if it was out of curiosity or if he intended an asking any further questions about it.
" Well me too. I guess— I guess I'm wondering if you wanna, you know. Go together?" The two held eye contact for a brief second before he carried on, " I mean, it doesn't have to mean anything. It can just be as friends? But if we both don't have dates I could come and pick you up?... or actually...just forget I asked." He turned his head away to cover his shear embarrassment from the question.
Letting out a soft giggle, Sienna moved his hand from his face and met with his eyes once again. She took in a deep breath, letting the oxygen kickstart her thinking, debating momentarily on how to respond. However, it wasn't like anyone else had asked her and since Stiles didn't seem like he was going to, she still wanted a date to her first dance.
But still, she wasn't sure if she really even liked Jake, he seemed as sweet as he did weird. But he was nice nonetheless, however, Sienna didn't think it felt fair to say yes to him when she would be thinking of someone else the whole night." I would love to say yes...But I'm sorry, I can't, it wouldn't be fair on you because you should go with someone who wants you as much as you do them." Sienna replied, however not letting the words come out harsh but more as a gentle way of letting him down and trying to keep his dignity intact. His teeth took in his bottom lip and bit down on it before he replied with a nod as he said, " Its okay, it was worth a shot though I guess".
" But hey, we are still History partners right? We work well as a team and we can't let this mess with that, okay?" She nudged his arm playfully with a smile on her face.
" Of course not, we'll always work well together Sienna" his expression matched hers and the feeling of rejection no longed loomed in the air.

Lydia, Allison and Sienna were sitting together at lunch. The boys who usually accompanied them were both held back to finish a test so it left the three girls to gossip before they arrived.
" What? So he actually asked you out?" Allison seemed genuinely shocked by the question that Jake Richards had asked her.
" I mean, I admire the confidence but that boy hasn't got a chance with you" the strawberry blonde stated nonchalantly as she stared into her compact mirror and applied another top up of mascara to her lashes.
