A New Beginning (Jai Brooks Fanfiction)

Chapter 24

One week later

Maria's POV

"He's never going to wake up, is he?" Shyler said, staring out of the window in my room.

"Don't say that. He's still alive and the doctors say that he is healing well and he may wake up any time." I tried to comfort her, but the doubt and unsurety was clear in my voice.

Shyler hasn't cried in a couple days. Now, she just sits, eyes glazed over and deep in thought most of the time. I try to make conversation with her whenever I can, but it's hard to comfort a person who seems to be in a whole different world. 

Me and Shyler have gotten really close these past few days, in fact, all of us did. Jai, Luke, Shyler and I. I wanted so desperatly for Beau to wake up, just like everybody else. 

Skip and James arrived from New York yesterday at night. Their flight got delayed several times and they had to say overnight at many different hotels in many different countries, that's why they came so late. I will be meeting them today, once they wake up from jet lag. 

Shyler scooched towards me and leaned her head on my shoulder. 

"Dont tear yourself down like that." I whisper. 

There is a sof knock on the door, and whispers from behind it.

"Come in!" Shyler says. I looked at her, surprised to see her tears wiped and her voice more or less back to normal.

Two boys come in. One of them is significantly taller than the other. He has a silver piercing on his right dimple, and medium length hair, swepped up in a wide, wave-like quiff. The second, shorter boy has one peircing on his ear, and another, silver peircing just belown his lip. Two sides of his head are shaved short, but the hair on top is tall and dyed into a light, almost blonde colour. I did not need an introduction to know who they are, I've been watching their channel since the first video was out. "Hello James." I said while shaking the taller boys hand. "Hi Daniel." I shook the shorter boys hand.

"Call me Skip." He said smiling. I heard a shuffle behind me, and an awkward cough. 

"I'm, um I'm Shyler." She stuttered. Her voice was on the verge of cracking again, and her eyes were moist and blood shot. James and Daniel both frowned, concrened. " 'Ello!" Skip says chreerfully. Shyler puts on a brave face and steps forward, shaking both of their hands.

"Weve heard so much about both of view! I personally would love to get to know bith of view, but I hope you understand our need to see Beau before doing anything else." James said. He wasn't talking like he usually does. He was talking like you talk when you give a speech, or aren't comfortable around a person. 

"Yes, yes of course." I say, and lead them out of the door, and down the stairs. 

"JAI! LUKE!" I yell, not knowing where they were. I heard the pound of footsteps, and the door leading to the patio burst open. 

"Skip! James! I see you have met Maria and Shyler." Jai says. 

Skip smiles. "I don't think we really needed to, I know all about her from my phone calls with you. She's just like you described her isn't she? Long, beautiful blonde hair, sparkling eyes that seem to be full of life and energy." Jai and I both turned a deep scarlet. "Shut up." Jai groaned. Skip, James and Luke all burst out laughing. I turneed around, not wanting Jai to see my uncontrollable smile. 

"Anyway," James says, still chuckling, "we want to go see Beau." All of their faces suddenly turn grave.

Luke leads us to the car, but when I turn around, Shyler is still standing in the doorway. I jog over to her. "Aren't you coming?" I ask. "I can't handle it, seeing him like that. I just can't." She whispers, just loud enough for me to barely hear her. I wrap my arms around her, and wave Luke in signal to go without us.

"You don;t have to stay with me, I know you want to go see him." Shyler says, her face in my hair. "I'm not going anywhere." I whisper, rubbing comforting circles in her back. Luke's eyebrows scrunch in concern, but he drives off without us.
