Chapter 26

Maria's POV

Shyler and I sat on the couch, eating popcorn and trying to find what movie to watch on Netflix, when I get a call from Jai.

"'Ello," I mumble into the phone, my mouth stuffed with popcorn.

"He's awake! He's alive! Come quick! Times awaistin'!" Jai yells into the phone. My eyes widen in shock as my brain comprehends his words. My mouth doesn't function for a few seconds, but when I can finally move the muscles controlling it, I laugh, but before I can get any words out, Jai had already hung up the phone.

"Shyler?"

"Yea?" She mummbled, eyes focused on the screen as she scrolled through the list of incredibly crappy movies.

"We should probably get to the hospital." My voice was monotone. I wanted to surprise her.

"Is everything okay? What happened is Beau okay? Did Jai say anything?" Shyler went on a ramble of questions before I could continue.

"He's awake!" I cut her off, I carefully watched her expression, seeing it change from neutral, to shocked, to the happiest I have ever seen her.

She sprang from the couch as if someone bit her, with a yelp of excitment she ran to the front door, grabbing her phone, keys and wallet on the way out. Before I could even turn the TV off, she was in the car and yelling at me to hurry up. I chuckled and went out the front door. In that moment, as the car drove off with us on our way to see our returned friend, I could see just how in love with Beau she was.
