Chapter 25: the truth

Calum's POV

"Well it all started at the concert," I explained,

"We just got out on stage. I was pumped at how big the place was. I was looking out into the crowd and I saw you. I went and told luke about you. He agreed with me and thought you were hot. Luke and I made the plan to get you backstage, so I could talk to you. I was shy, so I told Luke to talk to you and become friends with you, so that way I could grow closer to you. Well, Luke and you became friend all right, a little more than friends that I had hoped. Luke didn't even bother telling me how he felt about you. He just asked you out with out even telling me! I decided to let it go, but the more I saw you and Luke together, the more jealous I got. I just couldn't help but think that that's could have been me with you." I finished letting out a huge breath.

"Luke told me none of this." Haley said starting to cry.

"It's not a big deal." I said hugging her.

"Yes it is. Luke went out with me just so you could be with me, but then decided he liked me so he would ask me out. He didn't even notice me from the beginning, it was you." She said looking at me.

I wanted to lean in and kiss her but I couldn't.

"No-yes, but that doesn't matter. Luke really loves you. It started out that way, but he really did like you, and now he loves you." I trailed off.

"But still, he could have told me the truth, rather than lie and say he noticed me." She said grabbing my hand.

"That's just a little detail." I said.

"But to a girl, the guy noticing her is a huge thing. If he doesn't notice you first it's not as special." She trailed off.
A year slid down her face. I put my hand to her cheek and wiped it off.

"Go after Luke." I said standing up.

"What's the use? He already hates me, and I'm upset with him too." She said.

"You both love each other. It will all eventually work out." I said.

She looked at me and gave me a soft kiss.

"Thanks Calum." She said walking out the door.

Haley's POV

I ran out of the party. I realized I didn't have a car, nor did I know where I was. Luckily Niall came outside.

"Niall! I need to to drive me to the guys place." I said quickly.

"No problem. I'll have my driver take you."

After a short car ride I was at my new house. I opened the door and found Luke sitting on the couch, his back facing me.

"L-Luke." I choked out.
He turned around and said nothing to me.

"I know about what really happened at the concert, and how you really didn't like me at first.." I said a tear running down my cheek.
This time he turned around and a flash of hurt ran across his face.

"Haley, I-"

"I understand. This was all an act, right? You just played along so I could end up with Calum in the end." I said crying hard now.

"No! It started that way, but I really do love you, Haley."

"I want to believe you but I don't know if I can." I trailed off.

"Maybe I can't trust you either!" He yelled.

"What happened with Calum was him, he was jealous so he had to do something." I said walking closer to him raising my voice.

"That hurt me, Haley." His voice got quiet and shaky.
"I thought I was going to lose you to my best friend."

"Well, you were going to let me be with your best friend from the start!" I yelled in his face.

He looked hurt.

"I'm going to bed, Haley." He said walking out.
He turned to look at me and I saw a tear run down his cheek.
I ran to my room and jumped in bed.
I cried into my pillow all night long.
