Chapter 9: i wish it was me

{DEREK'S POV}

Tristan and Emily are dancing. She looks so happy when she's dancing. I wish I was the one she's dancing with and not Tristan. I should probably ask her to dance after they dance. Maria and I sat down and they were still dancing. After a few minutes they went back to our seat.
"Tired?" I asked her
"Not really. It's a slow dance Derek" she said
"Do you mind having another dance?" i asked
"If it's okay with Maria and tristan" I looked at Maria lifting her eyebrow.
"Go ahead" said Tristan.
Emily nodded and we both went to the dance floor.

While we were dancing I asked her about the dance
"So how was the dance?"
"It's exhausting but it's going to be amazing"
"It will definitely would"
"Why?"
"Because you're dancing" she laughed a little bit
"I just wish it was me that you are dancing with" I added
"Don't worry Derek, we have plenty of time before I go back to London" I forgot that she's only living here for 2 years then she'll go back to London.
"Oh yeah right" I said with a sad face
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing. I just don't want this dance to end"

We both danced for a couple of minutes. We went back to our table and talked with tristan and Maria.

"I already paid the bill" said Tristan
"Why? I can pay half of it" I said
"It's okay. Think of it as my treat for getting the design a dance in dancing with the stars" he said
"And I got to dance with the most amazing and beautiful lady right here" he added and looked at emily. Emily is now blushing and smiling. Alright enough of that.
"Alright let's go?" I said
"Sure" he said

We got into our cars and I have to drop off Maria before I go home. Tristan is going to drop off emily at home. After an hour I arrived at home and went inside. I knocked on Emily's door to see if she's here but she was not. Where did they go? I texted Emily asking where she was. She replied "I'm at Tristan's. He asked if I can stay just for a couple more hours." I got the burning feeling inside of me. Tristan 1 - Derek 0 . Dang it. "Alright just be home early" I answered her back.

Two hours had gone by and still emily is not here. I went down stairs to get something to drink then the door opened. It was emily
"Hey emily"
"Hey Derek"
"So what did you do at Tristan's house"
"Well we watched a movie and just talked about the dance and other things"
"Alright. Maybe you're tired you should go get some rest"
"Alright good night Derek"

She walked upstairs and went to bed. I went to bed as well thinking she is here at home safely.

The next day

I got up extra early so I can cook emily breakfast. I cooked some pancakes and made it special with some berries on the side as a syrup, she likes that. I made some eggs as well, only the white though she hates the yolk. Then I got some orange juice in the fridge. I assemble it nicely on the table when she comes down. After a few minutes, I hear her coming down the stairs.

"Good morning beautiful" I said with a smile
"Good morning Derek" she said with a smile
"I made you some breakfast" I said pointing at the table
"Wow Derek thanks" she said and hugged me
"Hope you like it"
"Oh I know I will love it"
I smiled and joined her for breakfast. After we ate I got up and took her plate.
"Hey D! My turn. You cooked breakfast. I'll do the dishes" she said
"No I want to do this for you"
"It's fine Derek, go get ready you'll be late" she said and took the plate away from me. I nodded and went upstairs to change. While I was changing I heard a shout "DEREK! I'm going now! Tristan is here" she said shouting from downstairs. I shouted back "alright! Take care!". She said "you too!". I heard the door close.

Advance to the dress rehearsal on Monday

She was just sitting there. In her costume. She looks stunning. I fall in love with her every single day. She got up because it was their turn to dance. I watched from the skybox. They were so good. She was amazing. I never thought she could dance like that. After the dance, all the crew and casts we're applauding. I was shouting "go emily!" She looked at me and smiled. Her smile can really make my day. She went up to the sky box and hugged me. Tristan came up as well and told emily to rest in her trailer before the show. She followed him. It's my turn to dance with Maria. We did our dance and I went back to my trailer. I bought some flowers before I got here and I went outside to give it emily. I knocked on her door and she opened it.
"Hi Derek"
"Hi em, I got you these earlier" handing her the flowers. I went inside her trailer.
"Aww thanks Derek, for what?"
"To wish you goodluck later
"Awe thanks Derek" she said and hugged me.
"So what are you doing?"
"I'm just on Twitter"
"That's good"
"You know a lot of people are asking why tristan chose me. They think we are dating"
"But you're not right?"
"No were not"
"Good"

Live show

I watched her dance again and she was even more amazing. I think it's because of the adrenaline that rushes through her veins and pumps her up even more. that's what I feel every week when I dance. I give it all my best and it feels awesome when I'm finish. After their dance, Tristan and emily needs to pose in front of the camera and just wave until the commercial break. Emily got down from the mini stairs and hugged tristan. Tristan kissed her forehead and whispered something to her. After the crew shouted that we are on commercial, emily was talking to the judges. Probably asking how could she be that good out on the dance floor and she's not even a professional.

{EMILY'S POV}

After every show, some people interview the dancers.
I was just watching tristan on one of his interviews. The girl interviewing tristan is a girl, she looks like she's giving tristan a signal that she likes him. He looked at me and reached his hand to me gesturing that I should go over there.

"Here's my beautiful partner in the Macy's stars of dance, Emily" he said and placed his hands on my waist.
"Hi there, nice to meet you" the interviewer said
"Nice to meet you too" I said with a smile
"You did great tonight" she said
"Thanks, it's all because of this guys right here" I said and pointed at tristan
"So how was the experience being Tristan's dance partner?"
"Well it was awesome. I didn't know I would have this much fun trying to do the thing I haven't done for years and I'm glad that tristan asked me to be his dance partner."
"do you have a dance background?"
"Yeah. I did ballet and jazz when I was young and watched some ballroom too"
"And that is why it wasn't hard for me to teach her the dance. Even a hard move, she managed to pull it off and it was great" said Tristan
"Really? That's good. Tristan, how did you meet Emily?"
"Well at the rehearsal studio actually. She was there waiting for Derek and I talked to her"
"Derek? So you know Derek too?" She asked me
"Yeah. I live with Mark and Derek for awhile before I find a place to live."
"Wow. Are you related to Derek or Mark?"
"No, we are just childhood friends from London. I'm here to finish my last two years in college"
"Oh really? then you met tristan?"
"Yeah, Derek invited me to one of his rehearsals with Maria and I agreed. When we got there, there was paparazzi outside and Derek doesn't want me to answer questions so I waited for him inside. There I met tristan."
"Nice. Are you guys dating now?"
"I wish" said Tristan . I looked at him. "I mean no"
"You two looked like a couple actually"
"I know right" he said
"So are we gonna expect more from you on the show emily?"
"I don't think so I think I'm gonna focus on my studies first and finding a job to pay for college so yeah"
"Why can't you work here instead?" She asked
"Well it's not that simple and besides I'm not a professional to even work here"
"After that dance, I think most people think you are a professional"
"Awe. Thanks but i don't think it works that way here"
"aww that's too bad" she said
"Unless Derek recruits me in one of his dances" I said jokingly
"Well we will be looking forward to that. Alright, Thank you tristan and emily"

We went back to my trailer. Tristan's trailer was just right beside mine.
"Hey em, do you want to eat something later? Like a celebration for your dance today"
"Yeah sure" I said smiling.
He hugged me and thanked me for being his dance partner tonight.

{DEREK'S POV}

After the show I went to my trailer and saw emily hugging tristan. It was a very long hug. I went over there.

"Hey Emily, you want to go celebrate?" I asked her
"Ughh, sorry Derek, Tristan asked me out on a dinner to celebrate. If you want to come you can" she said
"Ohh okay. No it's okay you two should celebrate"
"You sure?" She said
"Yeah, I'll just wait for you at home" i said and left

...

It's almost midnight and emily hasn't come back from their dinner. I texted her that it's getting late. She told me not to wait for her, but that probably won't happen cause I can't sleep until I know she's safe. I was waiting in my room and someone was going up the stairs. It was emily. I opened my door and looked

"Hey em"
"Oh hi D. Why are you still awake?"
"I'm waiting for you"
"I'm here now Derek. Get some rest"
"You did great tonight by the way"
"Thank you Derek. Alright good night"
"Goodnight emily. Sweet dreams"
She closed her door and I whispered

"I love you Emily"
