Rocky's POV
We only agreed to leave the hospital when Chase got discharged, which surprisingly was just one day later. The secretary of the mayor returned and led us to a black limousine. He said nothing more, and everyone was very confused. Chase still needed some help walking, but Ryder and Tundra were able to help with that.
Speaking of which, I should really tell Tundra how I feel. We have had this awkward relationship ever since she and the other new pups arrived. I really do like her, but she spends so much time in snow and on top of Everest's mountain. Now I don't really like getting wet, and snow usually involves getting wet, so... Anyway, now that we are stuck in Merton, maybe it is time for me to have a little talk with her, since there is no snow here. Anyway, where was I? Oh yeah. Limousine, secretary, and a smidge of confusion.
So we all got into the limo, the secretary sitting in the shotgun seat, while everyone else, except the driver, sat in the back. We were all pretty thirsty, and the secretary allowed us to use the mini bar, so we all had some soda. Except for Chase, because he was only allowed to drink water. Poor Chase.
We were all pretty nervous. Why did the mayor of merton randomly call us in for a meeting? Were we about to get kicked out of Merton? Where would we go then? Why do people like pineapple on pizza? I had so many questions.
After about 20 minutes, we arrived at Merton City Hall. It was a building built in neoclassical style. It had tall marble pillars and a marble facade, with fairly small windows. Cypress trees lined the sides of the building. It was a warm day with no clouds in sight. It would have been a perfect day if we all weren't so miserable.
We got out of the limo and the secretary told us to follow him.
As Chase was helped out of the limo, I offered to take over Tundra's spot of supporting Chase.
"Thanks Rocky, that's so nice of you!" she said, genuinely happy.
I blushed and said "No problem," telling myself to calm down. My heart was beating into overdrive over nothing at all. We were just having a normal, friendly conversation, right?
Anyway, I helped Chase through the building with Ryder. Chase was smirking all the way. Of course he knew about my crush, why wouldn't he?
Anyway, the secretary led us through the building, and we finally reached a door on the opposite side of the entrance. On the door, it said "Office of Mayor Charles Griffiths."
"So here we are," the secretary said and knocked on the door.
"Yes?" Came a voice from inside.
"Oh, yes, hi sir. I have brought your guests here," he stuttered out.
"Thank you, Dave," said Mayor Griffiths. "Come on in everyone. We have no time to waste."
We all walked into the room. It had a lot of depth and was very clean, with spotless walnut flooring. The walls of the room were lined with bookshelves and an uncomfortable looking couch on each side of the room. There were also some fake palm-looking plants. So nice...
The mayor was sitting at his mahogany desk in front of his computer. The blinds in his large window were halfway down, and sun was peaking in from outside.
"It's Dávid, sir," said the secretary as he closed the door.
"Alright, Davis," said Mayor Griffiths.
Dávid the secretary seemed to give up at this point, and walked out of the room, muttering something about disrespect. We all watched him leave.
"So, how have you been enjoying your stay in Merton so far?" asked Mayor Griffiths, putting his hands together.
"It has been great. Merton truly is a beautiful city," said Ryder, taking the initiative.
Mayor Griffiths chuckled. "Alright, now tell me how it really is. And don't bother fighting back against me," he said.
Ryder thought for a second. "Ok, if I'm going to be honest, I haven't really enjoyed my time here, and neither have you, right pups?"
We all nodded.
He continued: "With all due respect, your city is beautiful, sir, but we don't want to be here. We want to go back to Adventure Bay. That's where we came from, and that's our home."
"Now that's what I'm talking about. Didn't that feel good to let some steam out?" said Mayor Griffiths.
Ryder nodded, but I couldn't tell where Mayor Griffiths was going, and something tells me he didn't know either. Had we just come here for a therapy session or something?
"So here's the deal. I have a plan for you to get back to Adventure Bay. Although I'm warning you, it most definitely isn't foolproof," he said, looking around at us. "I have signed a deal with the company that produced your tools and gadgets, and they have made exact replicas of your old ones..."
We all looked at each other and began laughing. We all embraced in pure happiness, even pulling the mayor into our mess. After we all had calmed down, Ryder asked some questions that I also had begun wondering about.
"What exactly is the plan? And what's in it for you?"
"Well, that is the plan. You will get your gadgets and go liberate Adventure Bay. I don't care how, all of that is up to you. As long as you don't hurt, or god forbid, kill any civilians, I'm fine. Just please make sure to get rid of that idiot Humdinger, he's really getting on my nerves. Also, do not mention anything about my involvement in this when you are questioned, Ok?" Mayor Griffiths said.
We nodded. That seemed fair enough. And this would make us heroes, of course. Not that we already weren't heroes.
"As for your second question," he continued. "The large influx of refugees and threats from Mayor Humdinger have put a lot of strain on this city, both economically and socially. Also, I don't like having a crazy megalomaniac gone rogue in office just a few hours away from me."
And so it was. Mayor Griffiths led us to the garage in the city hall. All of our pup packs were there, and also some of Ryders tools and other stuff he used. We didn't get our old vehicles, because that was a line that Mayor Griffiths did not want to cross, since they just would be for us only, and not benefit the city. We were still incredibly thankful for him, though, and he insisted that we didn't have to pay for anything of what he had done for us, not even in the future.
We went home with a new feeling of hope, and oh boy was Katie surprised when she saw all of us wearing our pup packs again.
"We're going to go back to save your Cali," said Rubble. "We're going back to save everyone."
A/N: Another chapter complete! Sorry that this one took so long, but sometimes it is difficult to find motivation. It is still my goal to finish this story, though. The next chapter will be more exciting than this one. For now though, I'm going to have to sign off. It's getting late for me.
Olly, out!
