"GULF!"
Thanks to my reflexes, I was able to catch him before he hits the floor. He just fainted after the declaration of Claire's death.
I was immediately assisted by nurses near me and put Gulf in a room. Track of tears were visible in his eyes and cheeks.
I know how he felt. He's been with Claire just within a short period of time, but she was very kind and jolly, just for simple things.
I saw Claire's body wheeled out of the ICU room, to be taken to the morgue. I cannot take to see her at this state. One thing is for sure, I will make the culprit pay for what they did. They just take the mother out of the newly born baby. I will not let this pass.
After a few minutes, I felt my husband suddenly move and jolt when he wakes up. He looks at his surroundings and when he realizes that he still in the hospital, he burst crying and hug me.
I feel his agony on Claire's death. Then he suddenly stand up, wipes his tears and proceed to the nurses station. I don't understand what he wants to do. So I just let him.
"Hi" he croaked.
"Condolences Sir, for what happen to your patient."
"Thank you. She's in a much better place now. I want to do what she asked me before she die."
"Anything we can help you sir?"
" I will give name to the baby. I still want Claire to be listed on his birth certificate. But my husband and I will be the parents."
I smiled. Despite of what happen, Claire still give us the blessings that we have wanted.
A baby.
A kid.
Claire, I promise you. We will take good care of your baby with all our life.
My husband fills the form and then return it to the nurses afterwards. Then, he started crying again. He is starting to fill up the death certificate form for Claire.
A few more minutes pass, and then, we are standing outside the NICU. Plainly staring at the baby.
Our baby.
Ansel Eijaz is now officially ours.
It happened in a difficult and unexplainable situation, but we will make sure that he will grow happy and full of life.
